NORTH SEASPRAY 3
RE-ENTRY AND DEEPENING
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Lakes Oil (“LKO”) advises that at 6:00 AM today the drilling contractor was running a wiper trip to condition the hole prior to running casing in the North Seaspray 3 well.
Over the weekend the well was drilled to a depth of 1294 metres (total depth of 1269 metres). The well has been successfully turned from a vertical well to an angle of 57 degrees. The target sand (“A”) has been encountered and gas shows were recorded on entry of the sand.
It is now planned to suspend the well until a coiled tubing unit can be obtained to drill horizontally along the “A” sand. This will take place as soon as possible.
After casing has been run Lakes will release the Hunt rig to Essential Petroleum who will drill the “Killarney 1” well in PEP 152 onshore Otway Basin in which Lakes holds a 15.59% interest.
The Trifon Tight Gas Project is funded by Jarden Corporation Australia Pty Ltd to the extent that the first $5 million of expenditure contributed by them will earn a 50% interest in a defined area which covers both the Trifon and Gangell structures and includes the North Seaspray 3 well.
The North Seaspray 3 well is located in PEP 157. An overriding royalty of 5% of the wellhead value of any hydrocarbon production is payable to Roma Petroleum N.L. a former permit holder.

JV petroleum development with CLK Energy Inc
Icon Energy Limited advises that it has entered into a joint venture petroleum development with CLK Energy Inc (CLK) to develop the Bayou Choctaw Oilfield in Louisiana, USA.
A binding Letter of Intent has been signed over the three leases held by Icon Oil US LLC (Icon) and a subsidiary of Horizon Oil Limited (Horizon) at Bayou Choctaw and a Purchase and Sale Agreement is to be closed by 25th June 2004. Details of the Purchase and Sale Agreement are being finalised and are subject to title opinion and environmental inspection. When all conditions are met and the sale closed, a drilling programme will commence in the second half of this year as soon as drilling permits can be renewed.
Mr Martin Pyecroft, Chairman of Icon Energy Limited, said, “The introduction of CLK as Operator and Managing joint venture partner is a significant accomplishment as CLK has over 25 years drilling experience in the Gulf Coast of the USA. CLK has an exploration success rate exceeding 50% and has been instrumental in the discovery of numerous oil and gas fields that have produced in excess of four trillion cubic feet of gas.”
Mr Rick Gardner, President and CEO of CLK, said, “I am very excited about this new venture as it is one of the few significant proven undeveloped oil and gas reserves with considerable upside potential. CLK’s expertise in evaluating 3D seismic data and development drilling will assist in optimal placing of development wells at Bayou Choctaw.”
The agreement reached should enable Icon and its joint venture partners to re-commence drilling in the second half of this year. - Web Site

NORTH SEASPRAY 3
RE-ENTRY AND DEEPENING
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Lakes Oil (“LKO”) advises that the North Seaspray 3 well has reached a total depth of 1438 metres, having drilled 63 metres of new hole in the last twenty-four hours.
Continuing gas shows have been recorded.
The well will now be surveyed and logged in preparation for drilling a deviated directional hole to intersect the principal reservoir horizontally. Following this drilling operation, 4.5 inch casing will be set. This will allow the balance of the well to be drilled horizontally, under-balanced with a coiled tubing unit.
The North Seaspray 3 well is located in PEP 157. An overriding royalty of 5% of the wellhead value of any hydrocarbon production is payable to Roma Petroleum N.L. a former permit holder.

POSITIVE SINIVIT GOLD PROJECT FEASIBILITY REVISION
Vancouver, 26 May 2004. A positive revision of the feasibility study for the Sinivit gold project, (in which the company has an effective 92.5% interest), supports the development and mining of the gold mineralisation at the project. This is the first stage in a three stage mine development program in Papua New Guinea (PNG). The study has been lodged with the PNG Government, and required approvals to commence development are expected in due course.
NGG has interests in twelve projects in PNG, all with major gold or gold/copper potential. The company's focus is on four projects including three with gold resources which are targeted for consecutive development over the next three years. These resources were partly drilled out in the late 1990's, but because of market conditions, the company was unable to undertake complete evaluation at that time. The resources defined to date form relatively small parts of large mineralised systems, one or all of which the company considers could host major gold deposits, geologically similar to the known multi million oz gold deposits operated in PNG by Placer Dome and Rio Tinto.
The company's business plan forecasts gold production totalling 40,000 ozs gold per year for a minimum of 4 to 5 years, commencing in mid 2005, provided positive feasibility studies are completed, and mining titles are granted by the PNG Government.
The initial mine is planned for the Sinivit Project in East New Britain PNG, and should be followed in 2005 by the Imwauna Mine (Normanby Property), and in 2006 by the Weioko Mine (Sehulea Property). A revised feasibility study has been completed which supports the immediate development of the Sinivit Gold Mine. An external feasibility was completed in the late 1990's but because of market conditions the project did not proceed at that time. The revised feasibility differs from the original feasibility in two main areas: recovery of gold will be from vat leaching instead of CIP and the known reserves will be mined over a 15 month period instead of 3 years. These changes substantially increase the return on the project and thus its viability.
The revised metallurgical testing was carried out in house and by consultants Ammtec Limited. This testing showed that column leach tests gave gold recoveries of 88%. The revised mine plan was completed by consultant mining engineer, Colin Wregg.
The main conclusions of the feasibility itself in respect to the project (92.5% NGG) are as follows:
Part of the cash flow will be used to upgrade inferred oxide gold resources at Sinivit to reserves or for drilling to increase the oxide resource base. The intention is to extend the life of the mine. The cash flow will also be used to advance the Imwauna Project (Normanby Property) which the company hopes will be its second mine.
In addition to the oxide resources, the Sinivit Project has a resource of telluride/gold mineralisation plus excellent potential to substantially increase that resource. Studies will be carried out to determine if this additional resource can be economically developed.
The technical data in this release was prepared by or under the supervision of Robert D. McNeil, Chairman and CEO of the Company. Mr. McNeil is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and meets the requirements of NI 43-101 for a qualified person. Mr. McNeil has a M.Sc. in Geology and approximately 45 years experience in the mineral exploration industry.
Mine development could commence soon after all government approvals are in place. At this point in time the company does not believe that this is likely before August 2005, with gold production in mid 2005.
New Guinea Gold intends to remain debt free to reduce risk, and hedge free so that the company can benefit from likely future increases in the gold price. The main risks in the project are lower gold prices and the short mine life based on existing reserves.

NORTH SEASPRAY 3
RE-ENTRY AND DEEPENING
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Lakes Oil (“LKO”) advises that at 6:00 AM today the North Seaspray 3 well was drilling ahead in 6 1/8” hole at a depth of 1261 metres having drilled 90 metres of new hole in the last 24 hours.
Gas readings ranging between 35 to 80 units of total gas in the claystone and 80 to 200 units in the sandstone were recorded.
During the next twenty-four hours it is planned to drill ahead to the proposed total depth of 1400.
The North Seaspray 3 well is located in PEP 157. An overriding royalty of 5% of the wellhead value of any hydrocarbon production is payable to Roma Petroleum N.L. a former permit holder.

EASTERN EXTENSION TO PROMINENT HILL CONFIRMED
74 METRES of 3 g/t GOLD
Prominent Hill Joint Venture ELs 3056, 3079, 2563 and 2597, Minotaur Resources Ltd 100%, Oxiana Limited earning up to 65%.
The results from diamond drill hole PH04D056, at the eastern end of the complex reveal a gold zone within the central siliceous haematite core. Copper and gold zones were encountered to the south.
PH04D056 entered haematite breccia at 253 metres (all intervals measured down hole), intersecting 6.3 metres at 3.85% copper and 0.29 g/t gold from 264 metres. This mineralisation corresponds with an interval within hole DP008 of 5.0 metres at 4.32% copper and 0.36 g/t gold from 214.0 metres, reported in 2002 (figure 2). These two intercepts are separated vertically by approximately 30 metres.
PH04D056 then entered 74 metres at 3.02 g/t gold from 340 metres, part of which is interpreted to be a possible extension of gold mineralisation intersected by DP008 where the best interval was 8.0 metres at 5.69 g/t gold from 127.0 metres. The vertical extent between the two intercepts is approximately 200 metres (figure 2).
From 484 to 551 metres (67 metres) the hole is variably mineralised with either copper and/or gold mineralisation contained within haematite-bearing breccias and volcanics - the best intercept being 16 metres at 2.51% copper and 1.08 g/t gold from 487 metres.
Haematite-bearing rocks continue throughout the remainder of the hole. Gold grades vary with the most significant being 6 metres at 6.57 g/t from 569 metres. Results from the bottom 14 metres of the hole have not yet been received.
These results extend the known main mineralised area another 100 metres to the east and demonstrate the potential, previously indicated by DP008, that the siliceous "steely haematite" core has for hosting gold mineralisation in particular. The copper-gold intervals encountered in this hole in the south of the system, as well as in holes RP030 and RP031, suggest that additional mineralisation may occur along the southern margin of the complex.
A reverse circulation and three diamond rigs are engaged at Prominent Hill. The rigs are continuing a program of drilling which will further explore the eastern and southern extension as well as the east-west continuity of the mineralisation. The results of this work will be used in a resource estimation, due for completion in August this year.

ASSAY RESULTS FROM THE RC DRILLING PROGRAM AT TIREK
GMA Resources Plc (the "Company"), the gold mining company, commenced a drilling program at the Tirek-Amesmessa Project in Southern Algeria in October 2003. The drilling program is part of the agreed development plan established between the Company and ENOR Spa (52% owned by GMA Resources), the Algerian company which holds the mining tenements.
The Reverse Circulation (RC) evaluation drilling program at Tirek and Amesmessa was completed earlier this year. Two hundred and sixty nine RC boreholes were completed at 20 separate quartz vein targets known to have significant gold mineralisation from previous exploration work and mining operations.
The assay results (> 2g/t) for the first batch of 240 samples from the Tirek drilling program have been summarised in the table below. This batch comprises 145 sample intervals in 19 boreholes plus 95 quality control samples.

NORTH SEASPRAY 3
RE-ENTRY AND DEEPENING
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Lakes Oil (“LKO”) advises that at 6:00 AM today the North Seaspray 3 well was drilling out the cement plug at 1150 metres.
North Seaspray 3 was originally drilled in May 2000 to a total depth of 1107 metres. Subsequent drilling of the Trifon and Gangell wells indicated that the well was terminated in the upper part of the Strzelecki Formation and the gas formation that was intersected in the Trifon and Gangell wells had not been penetrated.
As part of the valuation being conducted by the Lakes/Jarden Joint Venture, North Seaspray 3 is being deepened to evaluate the ability of the Strzelecki Formation to produce gas using underbalanced drilling techniques.
North Seaspray 3 will be deepened to a proposed total depth of 1400 metres using a vertical conventional drill hole. This well will confirm the presence of the “A” reservoir, which will be logged. The well will then be plugged back and a deviated well drilled such that 4.5 inch casing can be landed in the “A” reservoir horizontally. The Hunt Energy No. 2 rig will then be released and the balance of the well will be drilled using the coiled tubing unit and under balanced drilling fluid.
The North Seaspray 3 well is located in PEP 157. An overriding royalty of 5% of the wellhead value of any hydrocarbon production is payable to Roma Petroleum N.L. a former permit holder.

FLOAT OF JAGUAR MINERALS LTD (“JAGUAR”)
As previously announced, Herald is allowing shareholders and the public the opportunity to invest in 5 of its most promising Australian exploration projects, through the issue of shares in subsidiary Jaguar Minerals Ltd at $0.20 (along with free 1 for 2 options).
Herald shareholders previously had a priority right to subscribe for shares in Jaguar until 4 May 2004. Due to the relatively short time that Herald shareholders had to respond to the priority right offer, along with postal delays and the general downturn in the market, the directors of Jaguar have decided that in the interest of fairness to all investors, the closing date of the Jaguar offer be extended to 22 June 2004.
In particular, Herald shareholders are reminded that they can still subscribe for shares and free options in Jaguar until the closing date of 22 June 2004, notwithstanding the expiry of the above priority right period.

PLACER DOME JOINS CULLEN TO EXPLORE FOR GOLD DEPOSITS AT THE
KILLALOE PROJECT, NORSEMAN, WESTERN AUSTRALIA
The Directors of Cullen Resources Limited (Cullen) are pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with Placer Dome Asia Pacific Ltd (PDAP), a subsidiary of Placer Dome Inc, to form a joint venture covering Cullen’s Killaloe Project tenements near Norseman, Western Australia.
The Placer Dome joint venture is for gold rights only and Cullen retains nickel and base metal rights for the project area.
Under the terms of the conditional Agreement, Placer can earn a 70% interest in the gold rights of the tenements for an expenditure of $4 million over four years, of which $250,000 is a first year, minimum commitment. On PDAP earning its 70% interest, Cullen can choose to maintain its equity, dilute, or convert its 30% equity to a 20% project carried interest to Decision to Mine. At a Decision to Mine, Cullen has the option to convert its interest to a Net Smelter Return royalty. (The Agreement is conditional upon the satisfactory finalisation of documents which formalises an Agreement between Cullen and Xplore Pty Ltd giving the Cullen/Placer Dome Joint Venture the option to purchase a NPI royalty which Xplore holds over two of the Killaloe Project tenements).
Placer Dome Inc is one of the world’s largest gold mining companies, with a strong presence in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia and operates the world class Kanowna Belle, Kalgoorlie West and Granny Smith gold mines.
The Killaloe Project tenements (see Figure) cover a greenstone sequence at the southern extremity of the Norseman-Wiluna Belt near its boundary with the Buldania Granitoid Complex. Exploration is expected to commence immediately and may include: gravity surveys, alteration mapping and geochemical surveys with potentially target drilling to follow.
Cullen’s Exploration Director Dr Chris Ringrose commented: “We are very pleased to have Placer Dome join us to explore the Killaloe tenements. Placer has obviously got the technical depth and knowledge of Eastern Goldfields gold ore systems which will allow it to bring particular skills to developing programmes of exploration at Killaloe.”

PROJECT UPDATE MAY 2004
CRACOW GOLD MINE (Sedimentary 30%, Newcrest 70%)
Underground development continues on schedule and within budget
Mine development continues with the decline face exceeding 760 metres from the portal. Significantly the face is now at a vertical depth (circa 110 metres) adjacent to the top of the Royal Shoot. This important project milestone allows for the commencement of detailed ore definition drilling to assist mine development.
The mining of development ore is due to commence in July 2004.
Production of gold remains on schedule to commence in the final quarter of 2004.
Plant and Power
The refurbishment of the existing processing plant has commenced with the removal of redundant equipment. Tenders for concrete works, CIL tankage, thickeners and the gold stripping plant are proceeding. Plans for the installation of a 1.4 megawatt ball mill within the primary grinding circuit have been finalised.
Additional 22kV power supply to the operations site is due to be commissioned in October.
Project Funding
Sedimentary has commenced drawdown of the A$21 million the gold backed funding facility from Macquarie Bank. The facility is planned to cover Sedimentary's share of project development, further exploration expenditure at the Cracow Gold Mine, and associated corporate costs.
Hedging and the gold price
Sedimentary has entered into forward sales contracts for 125,000 ounces of gold at A$651.50 per ounce with the balance of production available to be sold in the spot market. The majority of the forward sold ounces relate to early years production as such there is expected to be a significant cash margin on gold production with the forecast cash cost per ounce in the vicinity of A$220 per ounce over the life of the mine.
MT. BRITTON - Queensland (Sedimentary can earn up to 80%)
The initial exploration program at the Mt Britton gold field has begun with permits being received to allow drilling to proceed on the granted Mining Lease.
Preparations including establishment of access roads and drill pads are underway to allow for commencement of drilling during June. The planned program consists of 10 diamond core holes totaling some 3500 metres. The program is scheduled to take approximately three months.
The attraction for the Company at this project is the potential for discovery of gold bearing vein structures similar to the Cracow and Vera Nancy deposits in Queensland. Geologically the historical Mt Britton gold field is believed to represent the near surface and shallow underground workings of an epithermal vein system. Significantly the area has not previously been drilled and consequently the extent of high grade gold mineralisation has not been determined.
MICLERE - Queensland (Sedimentary 100%)
The Company has resumed a drilling program of 2700 metres at Miclere and Black Ridge as part of evaluation studies for a possible mine development. This phase of exploration and evaluation is expected to be completed this calendar year. The studies will comprise the results from drilling, mining and processing alternatives, estimates on capital and operating requirements, and alternatives for mine development. At this stage it is not the intent of the company to commit further capital beyond the completion of these studies. The company will examine a range of corporate alternatives for future exploration and development at Miclere, including:
- a joint venture with a major mining company or gold fund;
- the inclusion of the Miclere assets into a single purpose corporate structure;
- amalgamating Miclere with other advanced stage projects into a regional gold play
Gold in the base of the Miclere Basin occurs at the contact between Permian "Blue Ground" conglomerate and underlying basement slates and schists, over an area of about 20 square kilometres. Most of this contact lies within 100 metres of the surface. Historic workings define elongate zones roughly coincident with channels in the basin floor.
FOSTER - Victoria (Sedimentary can earn 80%)
The Company is undertaking permitting and the final stages of site selection prior to commencing a planned 2000 metre drilling program comprising both reverse circulation and diamond core. Geophysical studies concurrent with field work to finalise site selection are near completion. Exploration will be focused on drilling magnetic anomalies and seeking fault related gold mineralisation similar to Walhalla in Victoria and Henty in Tasmania. Drilling is planned to commence in the September quarter.
CORPORATE
As a consequence of the rapid increase in activities, Sedimentary's Managing Director, Mr Rob Devereux has resigned as a director of the Toronto listed Southern Cross Resources Inc. in which the Company continues to hold an interest.

NEW FALCONTM FARMIN PROJECT
EAGLE BAY RESOURCES “CULTANA” PROJECT, SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Gravity is pleased to announce that FalconTM will be flown in the Cultana area in South Australia where the targets are Olympic Dam style copper-gold deposits.
The survey will be flown under two farmin agreements with Eagle Bay Resources NL. Eagle Bay will cover the costs of the survey and Gravity will retain an option to earn an interest in the project by drilling any targets that FalconTM identifies.
The area lies around halfway between the Moonta and Mt Gunson copper mines within the prospective ‘Olympic Dam’ corridor and covers prospects of known copper mineralisation. For many years this highly prospective area has been quarantined by the Department of Defence and Eagle Bay has only recently received clearance to fly the area and to conduct follow-up drilling.
The survey will cover EL application 105/00, held by Minotaur Resources Ltd, where Eagle Bay may earn a 75% interest by expenditure of $350,000, and part of EL 3098, 100%-owned by Eagle Bay. Gravity’s farmin terms are as follows.
Eagle Bay will fund the cost of the FalconTM survey, estimated at $185,000.
For ELA 105/00:
For EL 3098:
A plan showing the tenements and survey area is attached.
The survey will commence immediately and results are expected late in June 2004.

DRILLING UPDATE
TRIFON 2
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Lakes Oil (“LKO”) advises that at 6:00 AM today the Trifon 2 well was at a depth of 1267 metres and running casing.
The engineering design for the second stage of the well has now been completed. The procurement of the equipment, and special oil based drilling mud required to drill to the anticipated depth of 2500 metres is expected to take several weeks.
Schlumberger Oil Field Services of Denver USA have completed a full assessment of the Trifon 2 logs and have identified the potential of a number of zones to produce gas after fracturing the formation.
The best of these zones will be selected and fractured to hopefully produce gas to surface at commercial rates. It is now our intention to move the rig to the North Seaspray 3 site.
NORTH SEASPRAY 3
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
North Seaspray 3 was original drilled in May 2000. It is planned to re-enter the original well and drill an additional 250 metres deepening the well to a total depth of 1450 metres and then using a coiled tubing unit to drill horizontally for approximately 300 metres under balanced through the Strzelecki Formation. This technique has been successfully used in other parts of Australia to lift gas production rates in difficult formations. On completion of North Seaspray 3 we will release the Hunt rig to Western Victoria where two wells are planned to be drilled by Essential Petroleum Resources.
WOMBAT 1 & WOMBAT 2
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
After extensive assessment of these two wells by Halliburton in Denver USA it has been decided to reenter the wells, close off the open perforations and prepare the wells for large fracturing.
Initially one zone in each well will be fractured. The zone selected in Wombat 2 originally flowed 470,000 cubic feet of gas per day to surface and the zone selected in Wombat 1 has not previously been tested.
Studies completed in USA by Halliburton indicate the potential to increase the gas flow substantially through fracture stimulation in these wells.
Lakes is keen to prove the potential of both the Wombat wells and to complete this as quickly as possible. These activities will take place simultaneously as we move ahead with the Trifon Tight Gas Project.
KILLARNEY 1
PEP 152, ONSHORE OTWAY BASIN, VICTORIA
Killarney 1 to be drilled in PEP 152 is a follow-up well to Port Fairy 1 drilled in 2002 which had gas and light liquid hydrocarbon recovery. Essential Petroleum Resources is the operator and are planning to drill this well in June. Lakes Oil holds a 15.59% interest in this permit and the remaining interest of 84.41% is held by Essential.
It is envisaged that the rig will return to Trifon 2 following Essential’s drilling program.

PETRATHERM - NEW IPO
NEW AUSTRALIAN HOT ROCK PROJECT
Efforts to generate mainstream commercial power supplies in Australia from the energy of hot rocks are being intensified - with much shallower depths being targeted than previously thought possible.
Petratherm Limited today announced a $6 million capital raising and proposed July ASX listing under plans to progress the development of Hot Rock (HR) energy in South Australia.
The Company's ultimate goal is to develop a commercial power station, in conjunction with suitable partners, to generate base-load electricity into the national grid, and to supply much of the electricity needs of remote operations such as the giant Olympic Dam copper-uranium-gold mine.
To achieve its aim, Petratherm is already acquiring exploration acreage in South Australia containing some of the hottest near-surface granites in the world - and plans drilling as early as November.
A key plank in Petratherm's strategy is the use of exploration methodology assisted through research with the University of Adelaide's commercial development arm, taking current hot rock technology a crucial step forward.
This new development allows economic HR deposits to be identified close to surface (within 3.5 kilometre depth) without the need for very deep, expensive drilling, and allows targets closer to commercial markets to be explored.
Petratherm says the methodology minimises the exploration risk and should also substantially cut development and production costs normally associated with HR exploration and development.
Broker sponsored IPO
Petratherm's $6 million Initial Public Offer (IPO) announced today is sponsored by Taylor Collison Ltd.
The Company is currently progressing an application for a $4 million Commonwealth R&D Start Grant to supplement the IPO funds and to assist with development of exploration and production methods.
Offer details
Petratherm is offering up to 30 million ordinary shares at $0.20 per share to raise up to $6 million. Key Petratherm shareholders at listing will include the ASX-listed Minotaur Resources Ltd (33%) whose shareholders will be entitled to a priority allocation of up to 10 million of the Petratherm shares on Offer. The minimum application is 10,000 shares.
A Minotaur subsidiary, Minotaur Resources Investments Pty Ltd, holds 15 million shares and 7.5 million options as consideration for Petratherm's acquisition from it of the tenement acreage and technology assets assembled for the float.
The Offer opens on 19 May, 2004. The closing date for the priority allocation is 17 June 2004, and 24 June 2004 for the general market. Petratherm expects to list on the ASX on 8 July 2004 with up to 45.6 million shares on issue, valuing the Company at listing at $9.1 million.
"Limited forms of renewable energy"
"The requirement in Australia for power from renewable energy sources will only increase as demonstrated by the Government's Mandatory Renewable Energy Targets and their Renewable Energy Certificates scheme," Petratherm's Chairman, Mr Derek Carter, said today.
"HR is one of the few renewable energy sources able to provide much needed base-load power without major environmental impact and Petratherm is seeking to exploit this opportunity through developing HR energy at shallower depth and lower cost," Mr Carter said.
Significantly, one of the flagship tenements being acquired by Petratherm is just north of the world's biggest copper and uranium mine, at Olympic Dam in South Australia.
Mr Carter said Petratherm believed commercialisation of HR energy from this acreage could provide base-load electricity to Olympic Dam and other emergent mining projects in the region, including Minotaur's highly prospective Prominent Hill copper-gold project.
Development strategy
"Petratherm is focused on choosing HR targets at economically manageable depths, favourably located to potential markets," Mr Carter said.
"We have acquired ground near potential markets where substantial power is or will be required.
"Our aim is to establish commercially sustainable, emission-free, renewable energy for power generation by identifying and developing hot geothermal source rocks at temperatures in excess of 200°C but no deeper than 3.5 kilometres.
"This compares to current HR projects which generally are at depths beyond four or five kilometres at consequential higher exploration drilling and development cost.
"Petratherm's modelling suggests that a block of granite one kilometre thick over a 25 square kilometre area, and having an initial temperature of 270°C, can support the generation of 1,000 megawatts of emission-free electricity over a 25-year period.
"Even for a conventional mid-sized power station of 300 megawatts, Petratherm's modelling suggests that HR-based power can be produced at a cost comparable to that of gas - about $40 per megawatt hour."
Mr Carter said these cost parameters potentially equate to or undercut average coal-fired production costs, presently the cheapest form of electricity production in Australia.
Tenements
Petratherm's three projects - at Ferguson Hill north of Olympic Dam, and Callabonna and Paralana near Mount Painter - cover 1,500 square kilometres and lie within a geothermal energy province known as the South Australian Heat Flow Anomaly.
The tenements are thought to contain hot rocks at depths of between three and 3.5 kilometres, significantly shallower than historic geothermal wells where drilling, development and production costs rise dramatically beyond 3.5 kilometre depth.
The Company's identified targets within the Anomaly contain granitic rocks yielding temperatures 8-25 times the heat of most granites - making it one of the most thermally active hot rock zones in the world. Additionally, the Company has identified buried potential radiogenic iron oxide deposits with high heat generating potential.
The Callabonna and Paralana targets are also within 170 kilometres of South Australia's main electricity grid at Leigh Creek while Ferguson Hill lies only 70 kilometres from Olympic Dam.
Five stage development
Petratherm, through the University's commercial development arm, Adelaide Research and Innovation Pty Ltd, has developed low cost techniques to test the heat potential of granitic and hydrothermal iron oxide rocks without the need to drill deeply into them.
Petratherm plans to initially employ the technique over the next two years to discover an economic geothermal hot rock source as part of a longer-term five-stage development program.
Stages One and Two, already underway, are to assess the limits of the hot rocks with 600 - 750 metre shallow wells to remotely test temperatures, stress environment and fracturing characteristics, to determine a prospect's ability to sustain economic geothermal energy through heat exchange.
Stage Three will involve completion of test wells into source rocks using slim-line drilling, and evaluation of thermal reservoirs.
Stage Four will see the completion of injection and production holes and the establishment of a heat exchange system.
Under this system, water is passed under pressure through the rocks and heated and then returned to the surface to "off-the-shelf" geothermal power plants.
Heat extracted from the water at this point, in turn heats low boiling point liquids, which when boiled, produce high pressure steam used to drive electricity turbines. The cooled water is then re-injected back down the injection borehole to be reheated and used again.
The proposed final development phase, Stage Five, requires additional drilling on a grid spacing to establish a commercial power plant.
Mr Carter said that once a field was in commercial operation, a second system of wells would be developed adjacent the first. This would allow alternation every 15 years or so between each field so that as one field cooled during production, the other would be reheating while off line - creating a potentially ever-lasting, renewable energy source.
He said the Company's modelling suggested Petratherm could achieve reductions of 10-20% in production costs through its exploration and production approach.

Budget Dashes Gold Exploration Hopes
The 2004 Budget’s failure to deliver on mineral exploration has met with strong gold industry criticism.
Australian Gold Council CEO, Tamara Gorrie, said that the Budget’s neglect of mineral exploration was a significant blow to the gold industry, particularly given the industry’s expectation that measures designed to reinvigorate exploration would be part of the 2004/05 Budget process.
The Australian gold industry contributes over $5 billion dollars per annum in export income and is a major regional employer, however gold exploration has declined by 50 per cent in recent years, jeopardising the industry’s significant input to the national economy and regional Australia.
Ms Gorrie said it appeared the two years industry had spent working with the Federal Government on ways to stimulate mineral exploration via the Government’s Parliamentary Inquiry into Mineral Exploration Impediments and the Mineral Exploration Action Agenda, had proved all but fruitless.”
“The Budget has demonstrated a clear policy vacuum on mineral exploration in Australia.”
“While the gold industry remains hopeful that mineral exploration will be addressed by the Government as part of its broader energy policy objectives in the short term, it is difficult not to view the 2004/05 Budget as confirmation of the Government’s abandonment of the mineral exploration sector.”
Ms Gorrie also called on the Government to explain how and when it intends responding to the recommendations stemming from the Mineral Exploration Parliamentary Inquiry and Action Agenda.
“The industry has presented the Government with a suite of considered recommendations designed to stimulate increased mineral exploration within Australia but remains unsure of when they will be addressed in any meaningful way by the Government,” she said.
“The gold exploration sector requires urgent action on the recommendations it has put to the Federal Government but fears that their omission from this year’s Budget demonstrates a Government that has lost sight of how heavily Australia relies on the wealth generated by its minerals industry.”

Completion of Merger
The Board of BeMaX is pleased to announce that completion of the three way asset merger with Sojitz Corporation (formerly known as Nissho Iwai Corporation) and Sons of Gwalia Limited has now occurred.
BeMaX now owns all of Sojitz Corporation's Australian mineral sands assets and 100% of the Murray Basin Joint Venture. Details of the merger have previously been announced, most recently on 29 April 2004, following the approval of BeMaX shareholders at an Extraordinary General Meeting.
Funding for the initial payment to Sojitz Corporation under the merger was provided by ABN AMRO with the support of major shareholder The National Titanium Dioxide Company of Saudi Arabia "CRISTAL", confirming their long term support for BeMaX and development of the Pooncarie Project.
In addition to the consolidation of the extensive ore resources in the Northern Murray Basin, which provide extraordinary opportunities for future expansion and development, BeMaX is now the third largest producer of Ilmenite in Australia.
The Director's look forward to fully exploiting the synergies that the merger has provided to optimize and progress the development of the Pooncarie Project and maximizing the operating cashflow from the West Australian operations. The Board welcomes Sojitz Corporation as a substantial shareholder and Sons of Gwalia's increased interest in the Company.

SHAREHOLDER SHARE PURCHASE PLAN and SHARE PLACEMENT
Mithril Resources Limited (ASX: MTH) today announces that its Share Purchase Plan (SPP) closed on Friday 23 April 2004 with applications received for 1,202,500 shares. Under the SPP, shares were offered to shareholders registered at 23 March 2004 at the same price as the recently completed share placement which was at a 21% discount to market based on the 5 day average closing price of Mithril’s shares at that time. As a result of deteriorating financial markets and nickel prices the underwriting agreement with respect to the SPP has been terminated and the shortfall will not be taken up.
The capital raised by the Share Placement and SPP totalled $1,814,000 before expenses increasing cash to $4,887,400.
The company is well positioned to pursue its nickel sulphide exploration strategy. Under the alliance with BHP Billiton Minerals Pty Ltd., Mithril is currently drilling on the Cooper Hill JV in South Australia, and is defining targets for drilling at Barrow Creek in the third quarter. In addition the Company will undertake further drilling at Streaky Bay, South Australia, which is 100% owned, this month.

Third Quarter Activities & Cashflow Report
Preparatory work continues to be undertaken for the drilling of the Trifon 2 well which is aimed at obtaining a commercial flow from the extensive gas saturated section within the tight Strzelecki Group sandstones.
Drilling of the Wombat 1 well commenced on 2 December 2003. The well is located approximately four kilometres north west of the town of Seaspray.
Six Drill Stem Tests of the Wombat 1 discovery well were conducted, two open hole tests and four cased hole tests. These tests gave results respectively of:
The well was completed and suspended for production tests. In March a ‘Stim Gun' stimulation was conducted over the interval 1489 - 1604 metres. The well flowed gas at an increased rate. Daily ‘clean-up' tests have been conducted and some light 47° API crude oil/condensate has been recovered. These tests are continuing.
A second well Wombat 2 commenced drilling on 31 March 2004. This well is located some two kilometres south west of the Wombat 1 discovery well. This is the first well to appraise the Wombat 1 gas discovery. Very high concentrations of gas were encountered in several intervals of the Golden Beach and Strzelecki Group sections. Four open hole Drill Stem Tests were attempted of which two were successful. The open hole tests were:
The interval which was not successfully tested by DST's 1 and 1A will be tested through casing.
