Preparatory work continues to be undertaken for the drilling of the Trifon 2 well which is aimed at obtaining a commercial flow from the extensive gas saturated section within the tight Strzelecki Group sandstones.
Drilling of the Wombat 1 well commenced on 2 December 2003. The well is located approximately four kilometres north west of the town of Seaspray.
Six Drill Stem Tests of the Wombat 1 discovery well were conducted, two open hole tests and four cased hole tests. These tests gave results respectively of:
The well was completed and suspended for production tests. In March a ‘Stim Gun' stimulation was conducted over the interval 1489 - 1604 metres. The well flowed gas at an increased rate. Daily ‘clean-up' tests have been conducted and some light 47° API crude oil/condensate has been recovered. These tests are continuing.
A second well Wombat 2 commenced drilling on 31 March 2004. This well is located some two kilometres south west of the Wombat 1 discovery well. This is the first well to appraise the Wombat 1 gas discovery. Very high concentrations of gas were encountered in several intervals of the Golden Beach and Strzelecki Group sections. Four open hole Drill Stem Tests were attempted of which two were successful. The open hole tests were:
The interval which was not successfully tested by DST's 1 and 1A will be tested through casing.

WOMBAT 2 APPRAISAL WELL
TRIFON TIGHT GAS PROJECT
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Lakes Oil (“LKO”) advises that the cased hole Drill Stem Test of the zone from 1355 to 1395 metres conducted during the last twenty four hours was unsuccessful.
Lakes now intends to conduct a fracturing program in several sections of both the Wombat 1 and Wombat 2 wells and have engaged USA experts experienced in fracturing these types of formations to prepare a program. We believe flow rates from these zones can be lifted substantially with deep fracturing of the reservoir.
The Hunt drilling rig used for both the Wombat wells will now be moved to the Trifon 2 well site.
This well is located approximately 50 metres from the site of the original Trifon 1 well drilled in December 2000. The Trifon Tight Gas Project has been designed to produce gas from the Strzelecki Formation. An engineering study reviewing the old wells has been undertaken by Blade Energy Partners of Dallas, USA and the results suggest that future wells should be drilled underbalanced using either a coiled tubing unit or conventional drilling but using oil based muds. With these underbalanced techniques, it should be possible to substantially lift gas recoveries.
Trifon 2 will be drilled in two stages after which the Hunt drilling rig will be moved to North Seaspray 3 originally drilled in May 2000. At North Seaspray 3 it is our intention to re-enter the original well and drill an additional 250 metres, deepening the well to a total depth of 1450 metres and then, using a coiled tubing unit drill horizontally for approximately 300 metres underbalanced through the Strzelecki Formation. It is our intention to produce gas using techniques that have proved successful in the USA and other parts of the world and are now proving successful in Australia.
The Trifon Tight Gas Project is funded by our Joint Venture Partner Jarden Corporation Australia Pty Ltd to the extent that the first $5 million of expenditure contributed by them will earn a 50% interest in a defined area which covers both the Trifon and Gangell structures. We are delighted to finally get this project underway and remain confident that we will produce gas in commercial quantities from both the Trifon and Wombat projects.

Vancouver, British Columbia, April 26, 2004: New Guinea Gold's Joint Venture Partner, Vangold Resources Ltd. ("Vangold") published the following information by way of News Release today. "Further to our news release of April 13, 2004, we have received additional updates on the Feni Gold Project in Papua New Guinea, from Dr. David Lindley, our lead geologist.
Feni Drilling Program
Dr. Lindley reports that in addition to tenement EL 1021, a second license has been obtained - EL 1331. This license forms part of the option agreement between Vangold and New Guinea Gold Corporation whereby Vangold has the option to earn 75% of the Feni Gold Project. Total combined area of EL 1021 and EL 1331 is 166.6 sq km which is the entire area of both Ambitle and Babase Islands that form the Feni Island group.
Second half of the core of MAD 005 is scheduled to leave Ambitle on April 23rd. The core will be air freighted from Rabual to Australia for assaying. The drill program is progressing with the third hole (MAD007) sited 50 m west of MAD001, will be drilled out to the north west. The drill pad is ready.
Vangold's work at Feni has been positively received by the local community. The re-opening of the Malekolon airfield, which was closed for 3 years, has had a significant positive impact on the residents. Vangold has provided medi-vac services to Rabaul for several intensive care patients. Further, many charter trips to the island have carried medicines for the local health care centre. "Gift" passage to and from Rabaul for up to 5 passengers (when available) is provided for shopping trips. Over K14,000 in wages has gone into the local community since operations commenced in November 2003.
Ambitle Island Biogeochemical Panned Concentrate Sampling - February 2004
As reported in our news release of January 28, 2004, results from the 10-15m wide Nanum River sampling, upstream from Kabang indicated the persistence of a strong gold signature extending well into the yet to be stream sampled central and northern portions of the crater. Papua New Guinea geologist, Jeremiah Ninkama, has completed the survey of the central crater area. A total of 47 panned concentrates and 251 biogeochemistry samples were collected. Becquerel Laboratories in Australia has advised this week that the samples had cleared quarantine and arrived safely at the Sidney lab. Results are expected at the end of this month.
The biogeochemistry sampling was restricted to areas where tephra cover is known to be thin or absent. The areas include the Kabang and Dome Prospects, covering an area of about 3.3 sq.km. Large trees (circumference of 79 cm) were preferentially sampled. Tree density is estimated at about 40 - 50 m apart. The panned concentrate program focussed on tributaries in the upper Nanum River, Matangkaka Creek (750 m NW of Kabang Creek) and Kiau Creek (immediately south of Kabang Creek). 41 of the 47 panned samples (87% contained visible gold. Gold was present as either or both of fine "mustard" gold or 1-2 mm flkes. Matangkaka Creek was the standout creek, in Mr. Ninkama's opinion, with more than 30 colours of gold present in the 4 washed samples. Panned material in this case was obtained from tree roots. In Mr. Ninkama's, opinion, with the completion of this program, the pan concentrate sampling for the main prospects within the central caldera (Kabang, North Central Caldera and Dome Prospects has been thoroughly completed.
Pursuant to an Option Agreement between Vangold and New Guinea Gold Corp., Vangold may obtain a 75-per-cent interest in tenement EL 1021 and the newly added EL 1331 -including the Ambitle and Babase Islands, Papua New Guinea, known as the Feni Gold Project. Drilling is also scheduled to commence at Mt. Penck, Papua New Guinea, (see news release of April 1, 2004) with an initial program that will comprise approximately 10, 100 metre holes to test the gold bearing system defined in trenching at Kavola East."

WOMBAT 2 APPRIAISAL WELL
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Lakes Oil (“LKO”) advises that at 6:00 AM today the Wombat 2 well was at a depth of 1550 metres and running electric logs.
Core 1 cut over the interval 1497 1506 metres consisted of very fine to medium grained sandstone, including two thin beds of shale clasts. After recovering the core the well drilled ahead to its current depth before pulling out of the hole and rigging up to run electric logs.
A decision as to deepening the well will be made on assessment of the logs.
Should we decide not to drill on, 7 inch casing will be set to the current depth in preparation to re-test the interval 1355 - 1391 which was unsuccessful on earlier attempts. The lower levels which successfully flowed gas to surface are being assessed for fracturing potential.
The Wombat Block is located in PEP 157. An overriding royalty of 5% of the wellhead value of any hydrocarbon production is payable to Roma Petroleum N.L. a former permit holder.

PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Lakes Oil (“LKO”) advises that at 6:00 AM today the Wombat 2 well was at a depth of 1506 metres and in the process of recovering Core 1 which was cut over the interval of 1497 1506 metres.
This zone is immediately below the interval tested by Drill Stem Test 3 which recovered gas to surface at rates of up to 470,000 cubic feet per day. Analysis of this core will assist in our assessment of the formation to enable us to lift flow rates by horizontal drilling or major fracturing.
On recovery of the core it is intended to continue deepening the well.

WOMBAT 2 APPRIAISAL WELL
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Lakes Oil (“LKO”) advises that at 6:00 AM today operations at Wombat 2 were circulating prior to pulling out of the hole and recovering the Drill Stem Test tool and pressure charts.
Drill Stem Test 3 over the interval 1464 to 1497 metres flowed gas to surface in six minutes.
The maximum flow recorded during the second flow was 470,000 cubic feet per day declining to just over 400,000 cubic feet per day at the end of a one hour flow period at which time the tool was shut in for three hours for formation pressure build up.
This is believed to be the highest level of gas ever recorded from the Strzelecki Formation onshore.
The results from Drill Stem Test 2 (conducted over the interval from 1400 1428 metres which flowed at a rate of 217,000 cubic feet per day) and Drill Stem Test 3 are both located in the Strzelecki Formation. It would appear from Wombat 1 and Wombat 2 that the Strzelecki is gas charged over a large interval. Drilling has shown that as we encounter reasonable permeability and porosity we are seeing substantial increases in gas levels. These sections will now be studied urgently as they appear to be excellent targets for horizontal drilling or major fracturing with the potential to lift flow rates. This has positive ramifications for the Trifon Tight Gas Project located immediately to the north of the Wombat structure, which is scheduled to commence shortly. It is too early to assess the effect of the new “non invasive” drilling mud which we are using in Wombat 2; however, the results are an improvement on Wombat 1.
We continue to be enthusiastic by the results at “Wombat”.
It is now intended to recover test tools and run in the hole to cut a core to assess the reservoir before drilling on.
The Wombat Block is located in PEP 157. An overriding royalty of 5% of the wellhead value of any hydrocarbon production is payable to Roma Petroleum N.L. a former permit holder. - Web Site

New Guinea Gold Corp-Feasibility Review for Sinivit Mine
PRESS RELEASE
FEASIBILITY REVISION FOR SINIVIT GOLD MINE
Vancouver - 19th April, 2004. Technical studies for the revised feasibility study at the Sinivit Gold Project, Papua New Guinea, have been completed, and subject to timely receipt of reports from consultants, should be submitted to the Papua New Guinea Department of Mines within 30 days.
The revision has included check sampling of earlier drill results, a revised mine plan (by external consultants), environmental updates (by external consultants), extensive metallurgical testing for a revised processing route, (in house and external consultants) review of resources and reserves and re-opening of project access road and various site roads. All revisions have been satisfactory.
CHECK SAMPLING
Fourteen previous drill intersections were re-sampled using remaining half drill core to verify previous assaying.
These intersections were mainly higher grade intervals to test the reproducibility of high gold grades at Sinivit. The original core samples averaged 34.01g/t gold whereas the average of the check samples was 30.60g/t gold. These results confirm the reliability of the original drill assays. In addition a 13.2m core assay (7.15 to 20.35m down-hole) was split into 10 splits to study the "nugget effect". The original assay was 12.4g/t gold and the splits assayed as follows: 14.85, 18.4, 15.45, 15.4, 18.25, 7.47, 18.45, 6.8, 6.85, 7.53, (average - 13.0g/t gold) These results show there can be significant variation between splits, but the average grade is similar to the original grade.
Four large bulk samples were collected from surface trenches to check for the tenor of gold at surface and to provide further metallurgical test samples if required. These bulk samples totalled 290kg, and each sample was crushed and split into 10 separate samples to check for nugget effect and assay repeatability . The results shown below confirm extensive gold at surface, show there is relatively minor variation between splits and only minor nugget effect.
Sample 1 of 58 kgs over a width of 5m, gave the following results - 20.1, 19.5, 11.6, 14.9, 24.0, 24.4, 24.9, 31.3, 33.2, 26.8, (average 23g/t gold).
Sample 2 of 102 kgs over a width of 4 m, gave the following results - 1.01, 0.68, 6.76, 1.06, 0.77, 0.97, 0.81, 1.21, 1.09, 1.01 (average 0.94g/t gold).
Sample 3 of 59 kgs over a width of 6.4 m, gave the following results - 3.4, 2.99, 3.63, 2.92, 3.22, 2.94, 3.14, 3.79, 3.32, 3.5 (average 3.29g/t gold)
Sample 4 of 71 kgs over a width of 6.2m, gave the following results - 5.29, 5.99, 5.85, 5.56, 5.35, 5.68, 5.12, 5.04, 5.06, 5.83 (average 5.4g/t gold).
The average of all surface sample splits is 8.2g/t gold.
METALLURGICAL TESTING
Earlier metallurgical testing by previous tenement holders had shown that the oxide ore at Sinivit gave in excess of 90% gold recoveries using standard cyanide lead. Further testing was required to determine if the ore could be treated by using VAT or Heap Leach, rather than a conventional CIP plant. VAT or Heap Leach would require a lower project capital cost and also result in lower operating costs over the life of the project. Recoveries averaging 70% are normally considered good for VAT or Heap Leach. Initial column leach testing by Macmin Silver Ltd at their Texas metallurgical laboratory on ore crushed to an average size of about 4mm, gave gold recoveries of 58% to 92%, average of 75%. Further testing on more finely crushed ore is still in progress with results expected in two weeks.
The metallurgical testing was repeated (checked) by independent external consultants, Ammtec Ltd of Perth, Western Australia. Preliminary assessment of their results suggest good recoveries in respect to VAT Leach but their final report will not be available for a further two weeks.
FUNDING AND PROJECT CONSTRUCTION
In a release dated 9th March 2004, the company announced a provisional financing package by way of joint venture with Celtic Minerals Ltd (TSX Venture Exchange listed) and Triple Place Junction PLL (AIM listed). The above company's have agreed to provide the capital required for mine commencement before July 3rd 2004. Provided this funding is available on schedule, project construction should commence in August 2004 with gold production in early/mid 2005.
For additional information on the Sinivit Project see our web site, www.newguineagold.ca
The technical data in this release was prepared by or under the supervision of Robert D. McNeil, Director of New Guinea Gold Corporation. Mr. Robert McNeil is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy and meets the requirements of NI 43-101 for a qualified person. Mr. McNeil has a M.Sc. in Geology and approximately 40 years experience in the mineral exploration industry.

WOMBAT 2 APPRIAISAL WELL
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Lakes Oil (“LKO”) advises that at 6:00 AM today operations at Wombat 2 were pulling out of the hole to retrieve the test tool from Drill Stem Test 1.
The test was conducted over the interval 1355 to 1391 metres. Initially, the well flowed gas to surface but it is believed the tool plugged shortly after opening. This should be confirmed when the tool is retrieved later this morning.
It is intended to re-run the test over the same interval later today.
The Wombat Block is located in PEP 157. An overriding royalty of 5% of the wellhead value of any hydrocarbon production is payable to Roma Petroleum N.L. a former permit holder.

WOMBAT 2 APPRIAISAL WELL
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Lakes Oil (“LKO”) advises that at 6:00 AM today the drilling contractor was installing the Blow Out Preventer prior to pressure testing. Casing has been run to a depth of 1359 metres and cemented.
It is anticipated that we will drill out into the Golden Beach Formation late this afternoon.
Lakes Oil has imported a supply of drilling mud designed to prevent invasion of the formation while drilling. This mud should reduce damage to the formation, which was encountered whilst drilling of the Wombat 1 well. This mud has been used successfully in the USA and South East Asia and to our knowledge it is the first time it has been used in Australia.
Depending on the results a decision will be made whether to drill on into the Strzelecki Formation below or to suspend the well at that point until underbalanced drilling equipment is available.
The Wombat Block is located in PEP 157. An overriding royalty of 5% of the wellhead value of any hydrocarbon production is payable to Roma Petroleum N.L. a former permit holder.

The most valuable equity investment is the Company's approximate 40% holding in TSX Venture listed company, New Guinea Gold Corporation. New Guinea Gold has recently raised by way of equity, some CDN$3 million, to implement feasibility studies at several projects with gold reserves and resources, plus fund other exploration. In addition, joint venture partners have conditionally agreed to provide an additional CDN$21 million towards Papua New Guinea mine development costs and further exploration. This massive increase in funding in Papua New Guinea should result in exciting developments over the next twelve months.

WOMBAT 2 APPRIAISAL WELL
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Lakes Oil (“LKO”) advises that at 6:00 AM today the Wombat 2 well located 2 kilometres south west of the Wombat-1 well had reached a depth of 1363 metres having reached the top of the Golden Beach Group at 1353 metres KB.
Increased gas readings were noted when the formation was penetrated and heavier hydrocarbons (up to C5) were recorded.
Currently 95/8 inch casing is being run and after cementing, our intention is to cut a core and, if warranted, run a Drill Stem Test of the interval below the casing shoe.
It is estimated the well will drill out of the casing shoe early Thursday morning.
The Wombat Block is located in PEP 157. An overriding royalty of 5% of the wellhead value of any hydrocarbon production is payable to Roma Petroleum N.L. a former permit holder.
WOMAT 1 UPDATE
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA

SMC MAKES FURTHER ACQUISITION IN CHILE
SMC Gold Limited (ASX Code: SMO) is pleased to announce the signing of an Option Agreement to acquire the Dalmacia Project from Minera & Immobiliaria Pudahuel SA, Chile. The purchase price for the acquisition is US$1 million over an 18 month term.
The Company is particularly excited about the acquisition of Dalmacia because it contains drilled out resources and because it is located only 6 kilometres from the Punitaqui plant which SMC is also acquiring in Chile.
The Dalmacia Project has been drilled on a 50m x 50m grid with average 200 metre long drillholes for a total of 10,172 metres of drilling.
Estimated Resources & Reserves
The Chilean company has estimated resources for the Project at 4.8 million tonnes @ 1.32% copper and reserves of 3.7 million tonnes @ 1.39% copper, for contained copper of 113,000,000 lbs.
The veracity of the resource figures has been checked by the Company’s Chilean mining consultant but the figures have not as yet been checked for JORC compliance.
The expected in-situ value of the reserves at 120 cents/lb is US$136 million meaning that the acquisition cost is less than 1 cent per pound of copper.

ENCOURAGING DRILLING RESULTS RETURNED FROM THE SMRV PROJECT,
SOUTHWEST TASMANIA
SUMMARY
The Pleiades (V30) Prospect was drilled for the first time ever and it produced the best assay result from the batches just returned. Drill hole SC006 had an intercept of 3m of 1.00g/t Au + 2.00%Zn + 0.67% Pb, from 37 to 40m downhole, with strong silica-sericite alteration and intense shearing showing many similarities to the Henty Gold deposits of the northern Mount Read Volcanics. This result is considered to be very encouraging, as the hole was noted to be proximal to a major fault that could have acted as a mineralising conduit and additional work is planned as and when possible.
A wide gold zone was intersected at Sassy Creek including a 94.4m interval (entire sampled interval) of geochemically anomalous (0.09 g/t Au) mineralisation, but it was not of sufficiently high tenor to explain the consistent visible and high grade gold in pan concentrate anomalies noted proximal to and upstream of the holes in sub-parallel drainages located to the NW and SE of the drilling. Further drilling is required.

EXCEPTIONAL DEAL ON PNG PROPERTIES WILL HELP ASSURE TASGOLD'S FUTURE
Two highly prospective groups of EL applications (~12,700 km2) covering the best available prospects in the ‘elephant deposit' country of Papua New Guinea have been acquired utilising the Managing Director / Chairman's ~45 years exploration / development experience in that country.
The first group (TasGold PNG Ltd) of 9 ELA's (~5,500 km2) have already been provisionally Joint Ventured (JV) to Celtic Minerals for a 20% free carried interest to bankable feasibility + financial closure. In addition, Celtic will make a placement of $1,000,000 for TasGold working capital (at 21 cents / share). It is an exceptional outcome at minimal cost.
TasGold Ltd is striving to emulate the success of a previous company that operated in PNG (Niugini Mining), who held only a 10% carried interest in a similar type of JV; they discovered the gold deposit on Lihir and at one stage had a market cap. of ~A$1.5 billion.
YOUR COMPANY IS UNDERVALUED BECAUSE ITS POTENTIAL IS NOT APPRECIATED
A broker and public awareness campaign this month should promote interest in TasGold's new focus on gold and base metal exploration in PNG and its existing projects in Tasmania.
Recently a second TasGold Ltd subsidiary (Island Arc Mining Ltd) applied for a further 5 EL's (7,220 km2) in the ‘Islands' of PNG to create an exploration company based on a specific highly prospective region (including Tanga, the island adjacent to Lihir with similar geology and perhaps similar mineralisation potential). These ELA's cover numerous epithermal / intrusive related gold and porphyry copper / gold targets. Historical results include trenches with 205m of 1.9 g/t Au (incl. 55m of 5.8 g/t) and 10.9m of 26.9 g/t Au (incl. 1.0m of 147.8 g/t) in separate prospects and neither have been evaluated by drilling. These applications are 100% TasGold and will either be worked by the company, joint ventured or a combination of both, depending on circumstances.
Including these new ELA's, investors have exposure to a total of sixteen advanced exploration projects plus >175 prospects with potential for gold, copper, zinc, lead, silver, tin, nickel & platinoids. The project areas are significantly under explored and represent a property portfolio that is second to none for a junior exploration company.
TasGold is now exploring for a wide range of precious and base metals and the company's excellent exposure to many projects with World Class Deposit potential (including a 3.8 million oz gold equivalent Inferred Resource), its good fiscal position and the current bull market in metal prices will help assure its short / long term success.

COOLGARDIE GOLD PROJECT
FOLLOW-UP DRILLING IDENTIFIES EMPRESS STYLE MINERALISATION AT PERSEVERANCE
Project Interests: | ||
Herald Resources Ltd | 50% | |
MPI Mines Ltd | 50% |
The Perseverance prospect is located 500m northwest along strike from the Empress underground operation and was a small high-grade producer in the late 1800's early 1900's. Production was from vein structures similar to those currently being mined at Empress.
Three angled NQ2 diamond core holes have been drilled from surface in an area located between 40m and 120m north of historic stoping.
Assay results have been received for two of the holes:
Drillhole |
Down hole Intercept (uncut) |
Lode |
TNG1767RD |
1.83m @ 24.18g Au/t from 141m |
Quartz-sulfide vein |
18.63m @ 46.71g Au/t from 146m |
Quartz-sulfide vein |
|
1.54m @ 9.44g Au/t from 176.22m |
Quartz-sulfide vein |
|
TNG1760RD |
3.83m @ 10.31g Au/t from 180m |
Quartz-sulfide vein |
The wide intercept in TNG1767RD comprises a strongly sulfidic vein and silica breccia lode containing consistent values above 30g Au/t. True width appears to be approximately 7m. The structure is correlated to a 2003 reverse circulation intercept of 9m @ 9.12g Au/t located 25m north and 20m up-dip, and to historical stoping 40m to the south.
A follow-up core hole has located the vein structure 60m below TNG1767RD. Field observation suggests that the structure has similar dimensions but is less mineralised.
The intercept in TNG1760RD is interpreted to be a separate but parallel structure.
Whilst more drilling is required to define shoot continuity and geometry, the results confirm the potential to define Empress style high-grade resources in the area. Subject to economics, a resource at Perseverance may be accessed from the Empress-Tindals workings.
A follow-up drilling program is being designed aimed at defining the extent of the mineralisation.

New Joint Ventures with BHP Billiton
Minotaur Resources Ltd advises that BHP Billiton has agreed to enter into two new joint ventures with the Company in the Gawler Craton of South Australia. The two joint ventures cover five exploration licences, totaling over 3100 square kilometres. In each joint venture, in accordance with the standard terms of the Minotaur/BHP Billiton alliance, BHP Billiton may earn 70% of Minotaur's joint venture equity by expending $900,000 on the joint venture area.
Both areas have drill-ready targets and are considered prospective for copper-gold mineralisation, similar to that at the Company's Prominent Hill site. Minotaur is the operator of both joint ventures.
1. Labyrinth (ELs 2636, 3024, 3120, 3121, Dominion Gold Operations P/L 98%, Resolute Resources Ltd 2%, Minotaur/BHP Billiton earning up to 75%)
Minotaur has the right to earn a 75% equity in the joint venture from Dominion/Resolute through expenditure of $1,750,000 in 48 months. BHP Billiton in turn has the right to fund the first $900,000 of the earnin amount to earn 70% of Minotaur's equity. Minotaur has the right to dilute its interest in the combined BHP Billiton - Minotaur equity to a 10% carried interest to commercial production with Minotaur's costs to be recovered by BHP Billiton from 85% of Minotaur's free cash flow from the mine production.
The tenements, covering 2,264 square kilometres, are approximately 60 kilometres east of Tarcoola. They cover a sequence of rocks of similar age to those at Olympic Dam. Exploration will be centered on a large gravity complex which occurs adjacent to the intersection of major NE-SW and NW-SE trending structures. A number of well-defined residual anomalies will form initial drill targets. The geological setting is considered highly prospective for the occurrence of Prominent Hill style, copper-gold mineralisation.
2. Bulgunnia (EL 3045, Dominion Gold Operations P/L 95%, Resolute Resources Ltd 5%, Minotaur/BHP Billiton earning 80%)
Minotaur has the right to earn 80% equity in the joint venture from Dominion/Resolute through expenditure of $1,000,000 in 48 months. BHP Billiton in turn has the right to fund the first $900,000 of the earn-in amount to earn 70% of Minotaur's equity. Minotaur has the right to dilute its interest in the combined BHP Billiton - Minotaur equity to a 10% carried interest to commercial production with Minotaur's costs to be recovered by BHP Billiton from 85% of Minotaur's free cash flow from the mine production.
This tenement lies 70 kilometres NW of Labyrinth and exhibits a very similar geological and structural setting to that project with similar strong NW-SE and NE-SW trending deep-seated structures that control the mineralisation at both Olympic Dam and Prominent Hill. The little outcrop that has been noted in the area shows albitic and haematitic alteration. A number of gravity anomalies adjacent to major structures will form initial drill targets.
3. Balta Baltana Joint Venture (portions of ELs 2563, 3056 and 3079, Minotaur 49%, BHP Billiton earning 70%)
Earlier exploration indicated that this area has potential for lead-zinc mineralisation. Located just 10 kilometres north of the mineralisation at Prominent Hill, drilling is planned to commence shortly now that Aboriginal Heritage Clearances have been completed.
4. Mingary (EL 2820, Minotaur 100%)
BHP Billiton advised the Company that, because of potential deposit size criteria, it will withdraw from this joint venture which was exploring for lead-zinc mineralisation about 80 kilometres west of Broken Hill. The Company intends to follow up exploration of several possible targets in this and adjacent tenements.

Drilling Contract Awarded for Cooper Hill Joint Venture
The Board of Mithril Resources Ltd advises that a combined diamond and aircore drilling contract for the Cooper Hill Project in South Australia has been awarded to Titeline Drilling from Ballarat Victoria.
Mithril is exploring for nickel sulphide mineralisation associated with intrusive rocks in the western Gawler Craton where previous results from historical drilling have identified ultramafic rocks with the potential for hosting nickel sulphide mineralisation. In 2003 BHP Billiton agreed to enter into a joint venture on the Cooper Hill Project earning up to 79% interest through the expenditure of $5 million.
Diamond drilling is scheduled to commence on the 21 April and will test a conductive body associated with an intrusive body, which was identified by an electromagnetic survey in 2003. An aircore drilling program, up to 1000 metres, will be undertaken on several additional geophysical targets in the area. - Web Site

Approval of Escondida sulphide leach copper project
he owners of the Escondida copper mine in northern Chile today announced approval of the US$870 million (Rio Tinto share US$261 million) Escondida sulphide leach project in Chile.
The project will produce 180,000 tonnes (Rio Tinto share 54,000 tonnes) of copper cathode per annum for more than 25 years and is scheduled to begin production during the second half of 2006.
This investment will enable the processing of an estimated 1.134 billion tonnes of low grade (0.52 per cent average Cu grade) sulphide material from the Escondida and Escondida Norte pits which would otherwise be mined as waste.
Water supply will come from a 500 litre per second desalination plant to be constructed at the Escondida port site of Coloso near Antofagasta, Chile. Escondida is pioneering the use of desalination for process water in this arid region of Chile.
The other owners are BHP Billiton, who is also the operator, with a 57.5 per cent i nterest in the mine; Japan Escondida Corporation (owned beneficially by Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsubishi Materials Corporation and Nippon Mining and Metals Company Limited) with a 10 per cent interest; and International Finance Corporation (2.5 per cent).

NEWS ON ALLENDALE
On site you see mostly open grazing country. There is much evidence of past mining, but little to show that 9 km of deep lead here produced 1.7 million oz of gold - except a monument to the richest deep alluvial gold field in the world.
ALLENDALE Described in October 1987 by BHP-UTAH as an area likely to contain a major as yet undiscovered gold resource of considerable economic importance
“... it (the new and resource) is likely to be found underneath or adjacent to the deep leads....”

WOMBAT 2 DRILLING
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Lakes Oil (“LKO”) advises that at 6:30 AM this morning the Wombat 2 well was at a depth of 778 metres. The top of the Latrobe Group was encountered at 775 metres KB. It is now planned to conduct a wiper trip to clean the hole prior to drilling ahead through the Latrobe Group. The top of the Golden Beach is prognosed to be at 1333 metres.
It is our intention to run casing through the Latrobe Group before drilling into the Golden Beach/Strzelecki Formation.
The Wombat 2 well is a step out from the Wombat 1 discovery well and is located approximately 4 kilometres west of Seaspray and 2 kilometres south west of Wombat 1.
The Wombat Block is located in PEP 157. An overriding royalty of 5% of the wellhead value of any hydrocarbon production is payable to Roma Petroleum N.L. a former holder of the permit.
WOMBAT 1 UPDATE
PEP 157, ONSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN, VICTORIA
Wombat 1 well continues to clean up. We are currently closing in the well to allow the pressure to build up then re-opening after approximately 12 hours. We are seeing substantial flows of gas on initial opening which then decrease to lower more sustainable levels. We are also recovering small amounts of liquid condensate/oil.

Acquistion of Higginsville Gold Project
The acquisition is a major step forward for the Company to develop a high grade gold resource and therefore be in a position to generate its own cash that will fund future exploration. Once settlement has been reached (which we envisage being in early June), we will commence an aggressive exploration campaign aimed at bringing the existing resource to a mineable reserve. At this stage, we are anticipating gold production to commence within 12 months.
The Higginsville gold field, while having had a substantial production history, is surprisingly under-explored and we believe there is excellent potential for the discovery of new major gold deposits. One of our key targets will be to locate the hard-rock deposit that is responsible for over 300,000 ounces of gold production that was mined by previous owners from a Deep Lead (old river gravels) style of deposit. - Web Site

CORPORATE UPDATE IN CONTEXT OF INCREASED METAL PRICES
On the 4th March 2004, the Company announced that it had decided to proceed with construction and commissioning of a silver processing plant and related infrastructure at the Texas Silver Project in SE Queensland, Australia.
The company had earlier announced that it would consider proceeding to silver production when silver exceeded AUD$9.00/oz and was expected to continue to rise in price. The silver price at that time was AUD$8.90/oz and today exceeded AUD$10.50/oz, (US$8.10).
This is an extremely attractive silver price in respect to the announced ore reserves at the Texas Silver Project.
The Board has now considered various funding options for construction and plant commissioning. To allow the company to remain unhedged and debt free and thus able to participate in further expected rises in silver price, the Board has decided to raise the required funding by way of equity.
We are presently discussing the terms of such a raising with several European based funds. In addition, when necessary, we will continue to access the $10 million equity line of credit through Cornell Capital in New York. It is also anticipated that shareholders will be able to participate in the funding on similar terms.
The Board believes that the healthy outlook for commodity prices in the coming years will underpin a bright outlook for the company. To raise the profile of Macmin Silver in North America and Europe, the company will be exhibiting at mining investment conferences in Calgary and Vancouver, Canada, New York and Las Vegas, USA and London UK, commencing in late April 2004.
We are intent on obtaining the best terms possible for the financing and at this stage we may not finalise the details of the financing until May or June. This will not delay the construction schedule as the company has sufficient funds on hand to complete all necessary planning, to order long lead time capital purchases and to commence on site earthworks.
The Company has engaged a senior mining engineer with over 30 years industry experience, who will join the project team in the near future.
As part of the current mine planning, and in view of the current higher silver prices, the company plans to investigate the possibility of increasing silver production rates to 3 million ounces of silver per year or more.
In addition to the Texas Silver Project the company has equity investments as listed below which provide exposure to silver, gold and copper.
COMPANY |
MARKET VALUE - 2/4/04 |
New Guinea Gold Corporation Malachite Resources Tasgold Ltd |
AUD $14.6 million AUD $472,000 AUD $144,000 |
The book value of these investments is AUD$1.6 million |
The most valuable equity investment is the Company's approximate 40% holding in TSX Venture listed company, New Guinea Gold Corporation. New Guinea Gold has recently raised by way of equity, some CDN$3 million, to implement feasibility studies at several projects with gold reserves and resources, plus fund other exploration. In addition, joint venture partners have conditionally agreed to provide an additional CDN$21 million towards Papua New Guinea mine development costs and further exploration. This massive increase in funding in Papua New Guinea should result in exciting developments over the next twelve months.
The market value of Macmin's holding in New Guinea Gold has fluctuated over the past month from a low of AUD$12 million to a high of AUD$16.5 million. It has a current value of AUD $14.5 million. Our holding in New Guinea Gold has proved a fortunate investment. In particular, in March 2002, the company acquired 7 million shares in New Guinea Gold at a cost of approximately AUD$140,000. These shares are now valued at approximately AUD$5.8 million. Although this acquisition provoked criticism at the time, it has proved to be a correct strategy.
New Guinea Gold also has a significant exposure to copper through two porphyry copper/gold systems in Papua New Guinea. Substantial exploration is planned for these copper projects over the next six months to take advantage of the current strong copper prices.
In summary, we feel confident that the value of our investments and, in particular, our New Guinea Gold asset will continue to increase as commodity prices rise.

INDICATED/MEASURED RESOURCES AT TEXAS SILVER PROJECT
INCREASED TO 25.13M OZS of SILVER EQUIVALENT
A major, shallow, percussion drilling program was carried out in 2003 at Mt Gunyan, (Texas Silver Project, SE Queensland, Australia), the results of which were the subject of a number of ASX releases during the past 12 months. The aim of the program was to define near surface mineralisation, mainly within the boundaries of the existing Inferred Mineral Resource. The Company had previously reported an Inferred Resource at Mt Gunyan of 13.12M ozs silver equivalent in 1998.
The above drill program resulted in the conversion of 4.61M ozs silver equivalent from Inferred to Indicated category. At a 30g/t silver equivalent cut off, the Indicated Resource defined to date is 2.1Mt at 68g/t silver equivalent. This resource included a higher grade zone at a 60g/t silver equivalent cut off of 452,000t at 175g/t silver equivalent. Drilling is continuing.
The Company has previously announced a total of 44.5M ozs of silver equivalent in resources, for the Texas Silver Project, including 20.52M ozs in Measured and Indicated categories at the Twin Hills Project. The new Indicated Resources bring the Measured and Indicated total to 25.13M ozs silver equivalent. The total resource, Measured, Indicated and Inferred, remains at 44.5M ozs silver equivalent.
The Indicated Resource at Mt Gunyan was calculated using cross sections spaced at 25m intervals, a specific gravity of 2.5 and a gold-silver conversion factor of 70. This factor of 70 has been used in all recent resource calculations. Grades and tonnages were calculated using Micromine computer program. The Indicated Resource is open at depth and in most lateral directions. It has not been closed off and further drilling is expected to continue to convert Inferred Resource to Indicated Resource category or to increase the total resource.
Mt Gunyan forms a topographic feature rising over 100 metres about the surrounding countryside and is only 3 kilometres from the Twin Hills project. Exploration to date has shown that Mt Gunyan hosts a number of metal associations including silver, silver-gold, gold and lead-zinc. The following table provides a breakdown of the drill holes completed to March 2004.
Drill Hole Type |
Holes |
Hole Av. Depth (m) |
Percentage of all drill holes |
Percussion Reverse Circulation Diamond Core |
190 41 3 |
60 130 120 |
81 18 1 |
As can be seen from the above table, the bulk of the 2003 drilling program comprised shallow holes. The drilling, however, has shown that the grades appear to increase with depth, particularly below 50m in depth.
The best hole intersections have been below the depth limit of the percussion drilling. This is particularly significant as we now proceed to drill out the deeper parts of the system.

Senegal Mineral Sands Project
New Mining Code
Mineral Deposits Limited (“MDL”) is pleased to announce that the new Senegal Mining Code has been passed into law and now paves the way for the growth of the Senegalese mining industry.
As previously announced on 28 October 2003, the company has secured a major mineral sands deposit on the coast of Senegal, some 100 kilometres north of the country’s capital, Dakar. The deposit was extensively drilled by DuPont in the early 1990s. MDL has been progressing the first stage of a feasibility study which includes utilisation of the company’s large dredges and mineral processing plants currently located in New South Wales.
The promulgation of the new Code allows companies to explore for, develop and operate mines under a defined and transparent fiscal and legal regime with clear and unambiguous security of tenure. The legislation contains major tax incentives for the resource industry in Senegal. In particular, holders of mining concessions are exempt from tax for a minimum period of seven years. For large exploitation projects requiring project finance, such as that envisaged for the MDL mineral sands project, the Code extends the tax-free period to the date of reimbursement of loans which may not exceed 15 years. In addition, mining projects are exempt from import duties, withholding taxes and free of restrictions as to the movement of capital and dividend funds.
MDL has been invited by the Department of Mines and Geology to resubmit its existing Mining Convention to ensure that this document aligns with the new Code. In particular, the previously signed Convention will now be amended to incorporate the tax incentives contained in the new Code. Little other change is expected.
The company is proceeding with the geological, engineering and environmental work necessary for the completion of a bankable feasibility study. The deposit is within unconsolidated surface sand dunes with little or no slime content. It is extensively drilled with over 8,000 drill holes completed, indicating a very large resource with a heavy mineral content between 2% and 5% (depending on the mining cut-off value chosen).
The mineral assemblage contains approximately 9% high quality zircon and it is this zircon content that MDL believes will support the economics of the project.
One of the company’s specialised drill rigs is currently being shipped to Senegal to undertake the drilling necessary to finalise dredging and hydro-geological studies. MDL is confident that mining will proceed using its existing three dredges, 20 million tonne per annum concentrator and 80,000 tonne per annum dry mill and expects that sales of zircon, rutile and leucoxene will commence in the second half of 2005/06.

DRILLING CONTRACT AWARDED FOR MT PENCK
Vancouver, 31st March 2004. New Guinea Gold Corporation (NGG) has awarded a contract for 1,000 metres of drilling at Mt Penck to the principle drilling contractor in Papua New Guinea (PNG), United Pacific Drilling. The initial program will comprise approximately 10 by 100 metre holes to test the gold bearing system defined in trenching at Kavola East.
The drill camp is presently being constructed and drilling will commence as soon as the drill plus bulldozer can be mobilised to site. Access is not a problem as a bulldozer can walk to site, however a machine may not be available for several weeks, which could slightly delay the commencement of drilling.
The Mt Penck property is owned by Kanon Resources Ltd. which in turn is owned 50%-50% by NGG and Vangold Resources Ltd. NGG is earning an effective 60% equity interest in Mt Penck by sole funding $300,000 of initial exploration costs. At the completion of this drilling program NGG should have completed the earn-in and thus have a 60% interest in the property. The Kavola East prospect at Mt Penck in West New Britain Province, PNG contains extensive gold in trench at surface.
The historical data suggests that the Kavola East Prospect is one of six named prospects that occur within a northerly trending structural zone on the northwest flank of Mt Penck (figure 1), an eroded, extinct, Pliocene strata volcano.
The Kavola East mineralisation is hosted within pervasive, argillically altered volcanics with moderate to strong silicification. The extent of mineralisation is illustrated by the geochemical gold in soil anomaly shown on figure 2. This anomaly is approximately 450 metres in length and up to 200 metres wide. It contains a central core zone some 250m long, averaging 40 metres in width in which the soils exceed 1g/t gold. Kavola East has been partially tested by extensive trenching (including a recent program in June 2003), but by only one drill hole.
Trench results from the June 2003 program and earlier programs are summarised in tables 1 and 2 and their locations are shown on figure 2. Results are very encouraging with intervals such as 97m of 3.39g/t gold, 20m of 2.77g/t gold, 62m of 0.84g/t gold, 40m of 8.89g/t gold, 5m of 60g/t gold, 131m of 2.36g/t gold and 64m of 2.50g/t gold. The single drill hole at Kavola East intersected 70m of combined mineralised intervals averaging 1.15g/t gold and included intervals such as 6m of 6.1g/t gold and 1m of 23.2g/t gold.

Antam's audited net profit in 2003 reached Rp226 billion (USD27 million), up 28% compared to Rp177.4 billion in 2002 (restated). The audited net income is Rp16 billion (USD1.9 million) less that the amount reported in our Preliminary Final Report (Appendix 4E), lodged on March 15 2004.
The reduction is due to accounting for the estimated current and future post-retirement health care liabilities of substantially all of Antam's qualified permanent employees, which amounted to Rp395 billion (USD46.5 million).
We are currently considering financing alternatives for our Tayan bauxite project. One of the alternatives we are considering to raise funds for our portion of the equity in the project company is a rights issue.
