Drilling Update Patties South 1A
Lakes Oil N.L. (“LKO”) wishes to advise that the drilling of the Patties Pies South Well commenced on 18 September 2003.
Whilst drilling the top hole a very coarse conglomerate was encountered at 24.5 metres which severally hampered drilling. The rig was moved off the hole after using compressed air in an attempt to clean the hole of the conglomerate debris. A cable tool rig was bought on site and drilling then recommenced.
This cable tool rig has successfully drilled through the troublesome section and has now reached a depth of 30.5 metres into the Gippsland Limestone. The cable tool rig will now be removed and replaced with the original drilling equipment. A conductor pipe has been cemented in place and drilling is expected to recommence tomorrow 27 September 2003.
The anticipated depth of the well is approximately 430 metres.- Announcement

QGC & OCA Spud Myall Creek East #1
Oil Company of Australia (OCA) has advised that the Myall Creek East #1 gas exploration well spudded at 1930 hours on 23 September in Block 2656 of ATP 647P in the Surat Basin.
It is expected that the well will reach its target depth of 2,226 metres in nine days. Myall Creek East #1 will have as a primary target the upper Tinowon Sandstone, which is the main gas reservoir unit intersected in the neighbouring Myall Creek and Churchie gas fields.
The upper Tinowon Sandstone, intersected by the Myall Creek #8 well drilled by OCA in March / April 2003, flowed gas at over 4mmcfd. Recent drilling success in the adjacent fields has raised the expectations of a success at this location. Gas from this well could be readily connected to the existing gathering, infrastructure and major trunkline systems.
The well is located in the western Surat Basin, approximately 4km northeast of the Myall Creek gas field and 7km northeast of the Churchie gas field and will address a mean risked reserves base of 2.6PJ.
OCA will operate the drilling of the well and any subsequent joint venture in the Block. The costs of the well will be paid by OCA in accordance with the February 2003 farmin agreement between QGC and OCA. When drilling operations have been completed OCA will have the option to take a 50% interest in Block 2656 of ATP 647P. QGC currently holds a 100% interest in that block.- Announcement

Shareholder Share Purchase Plan Raises $2.2 million
The Company is please to confirm that its Shareholder Share Purchase Plan (“SPP”) has closed raising $2.2 million.
Combined with the placement of $1.7 million to the Company’s major shareholders announced on 13 August 2003, the Company has now raised a total of $3.9 million in this capital raising process.
The success of this capital raising process places the Company in a healthy position to finalise the Bankable Feasibility Study (“BFS”) of its Cibaliung Gold Project in Banten Province, Indonesia where the Company has a 75% interest in a resource of 610,200 equivalent gold ounces, and to meet its working capital requirements. It is anticipated that the BFS will be completed in the first half of 2004.
In addition the Company’s gold exploration interests in Victoria will be advanced. - Announcement

COMPLETION OF CRISTAL TRANSACTION AND BOARD CHANGES
BeMaX Resources NL advises that in accordance with the resolutions passed at yesterday’s Extraordinary General Meeting, Cristal Australia Pty Ltd has converted it’s A$10million debt into equity and advanced a further $3.5 million in accordance with the agreement and BeMaX has issued 100 million ordinary shares and granted 50 million options to it.
Cristal Australia Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of The National Titanium Dioxide Co. Ltd of Saudi Arabia (jointly “Cristal”), now holds 37.4% of the issued capital in BeMaX .
Cristal has agreed to underwrite a further $16.5 million of BeMaX’s equity requirements as part of the Pooncarie Project financing and will purchase a significant portion of the planned production of Rutile from the Pooncarie Project under the Rutile Sales Agreement.

UPDATE BAYOU CHOCTAW USA FINANCING
Icon’s previous update indicated that funding for the above project would be secured in July 2003 and finalised in August 2003, with commencement of the drilling programme to occur shortly after the financing is finalised.
The financial arrangements through Mercedis Bancorp Limited are still being pursued along with other avenues and we now expect funding in October 2003 following recent extensive negotiations.
Icon has reached agreement with the joint venture partners on future planning. A drilling rig is available to commence the shallow drilling programme, as soon as the funding is finalised.

RECOVERY OF A DIAMOND FROM A DRILLHOLE
The Company has received confirmation overnight from the Council of Geosciences in Pretoria, South Africa, of the discovery of a macro diamond (0.4 mm to 0.8 mm sieve size) recovered from a percussion drillhole which was drilled into a magnetic anomaly.
The drillhole, located some 34 km northwest of the Gura Kimberlite (discovered by the Company in November 2001) terminated in basalt at 49m.
The diamond was recovered from the drill section between 28m to 30m. This section was logged as “alternating layers of silicified and calcertised sandstone. At 27m – 28m a conglomerate sandstone with inclusions of very fine grained fresh greenish black fragments (sub-rounded &Mac179; 2 mm)” was intersected.
Within the drill section between 23m and 30m, 5 class 6 (refer notes) kimberlitic garnets were also recovered, together with a background of several non kimberlitic garnets.
The information from the drill log tends to suggest that the drillhole was drilled into a regional sedimentary trap site, fed from palaeo drainage possibly from the east. Of interest are the very fine grained fresh greenish black fragments which are unique to the horizon within which the diamond was recovered. Samples of these fragments will be submitted for petrographic analysis.
The chances of recovering a diamond in a 6.5 inch diameter drillhole are extremely low. Consequently the Company sees this result as significant.

September 16, 2003,Vancouver,Canada---Vangold Resources Ltd. (“Vangold”) is pleased to announce that it has completed a brokered private placement financing of $1-million thru Canaccord International Ltd. The subscription price for each unit was 20 cents and each unit consisted of one share and one share purchase warrant. The warrant is exercisable for one year from closing at 30 cents. Five million shares will be issued before taking into account the exercise of warrants. In accordance with the terms of the placement, Vangold has paid the managing broker a commission and a broker’s warrant. A finder’s fee, in accordance with TSX Venture Exchange guidelines, totaling 250,000 shares was also paid. The securities are subject to a four month hold period which will expire on January 16, 2004.
Proceeds from this placement will be used to finance a diamond drilling program at the Feni project, New Ireland province, Papua New Guinea. Feni Island is located southeast of and along trend from the Lihir gold mine that contains an estimated gold resource of over 40 million ounces of gold at a grade of nearly three grams per tonne gold. The Lihir Mine is the largest gold copper porphyry deposit in the world with annual production in the order of 650,000 oz Au per year.
Like Lihir, Feni Island is a stratovolcano formed as the result of subduction of the earths crust exhibiting strikingly similar geology, including widespread gold mineralization, similar alteration styles and similar alkaline intrusives. Vangold believes that the Feni Islands Gold Projects highly prospective for large bulk mineable gold deposits.
Additionally, the TSX Venture Exchange has accepted for filing an Option Agreement made as of Jan. 31, 2003, as amended on June 10, 2003, between Vangold and New Guinea Gold Corp. pursuant to which Vangold may obtain a 75-per-cent interest in tenement EL 1021, covering 37 square kilometers on Ambitle and Babase Islands, Papua New Guinea, known as the Feni Gold Project. To earn a 50-per-cent interest, Vangold will incur $1.5-million in exploration expenditures on or before June 30, 2005 ($500,000 on or before Sept. 26, 2004), and issue 600,000 shares in stages (200,000 shares upon acceptance, 200,000 shares on or before June 30, 2004, and 200,000 shares on or before June 30, 2005). To earn an additional 25-per-cent interest, the company will before June 30, 2006, incur an additional $1-million in exploration expenditures and issue a further 200,000 shares. Pursuant to an underlying agreement, Macmin Silver Ltd. holds a 1-per-cent net smelter return royalty on any production from the property. The 200,000 shares issued to New Guinea Gold Corp. are subject to a four month hold period which will expire onJanuary 16, 2004.

Plumridge Nickel Sulphide Project - Joint Venture Falconbridge
Mithril Resources has entered into a Heads of Agreement with Falconbridge (Australia) Pty Ltd to explore and develop nickel sulphide deposits within the Plumridge Project, located approximately 300 kilometres east of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.
The Plumridge Project comprises seven granted tenements together with four new applications covering a series of mafic intrusive rocks with potential to host nickel sulphide and associated copper, platinum and palladium mineralisation. A major airborne electromagnetic survey has identified a number of high priority targets coincident with magnetic anomalies under thin cover and extending over a strike length of 1.5 kilometres. - Announcement

Australian Gold Council Media Release: 15 September 2003
• The Australian Gold Council welcomes as timely, release of the House of Representatives Standing Committee Inquiry - Impediments to increasing investment in minerals and petroleum exploration in Australia.
• The Report recommendations are comprehensive and advocate, at Recommendation 2, that the introduction of a Flow Through Share Scheme for companies conducting eligible minerals and petroleum exploration activities in Australia be investigated.
• The Council is disappointed that the Committee did not recommend implementation of a Flow Through Shares Scheme, given the majority of minerals industry submissions to the Inquiry, including that of the Australian Gold Council, strongly advocated the urgent establishment of taxation incentives for mineral exploration investment.
• The Inquiry’s Recommendation 2 supports the minerals industry’s July 2003 ‘Mineral Exploration Action Agenda’ recommendation to the Federal Government that it introduce a Flow Through Shares Scheme.
• Establishment of a Flow Through Shares Scheme is viewed by the Australian Gold Council as the Action Agenda’s priority recommendation and the most effective means possible of addressing the market failure that has seen Australian gold exploration expenditure plummet by nearly 60 per cent over the last five years.
• The Federal Shadow Minister, Joel Fitzgibbon’s, 15 September 2003 announcement of his Party’s commitment to the introduction of a Flow Through Shares Scheme is significant and demonstrates Labor’s understanding of the extent of the exploration crisis and its implications for future Australian gold and minerals production if not rectified in the short-term.
• It is imperative that a Flow Through Shares Scheme be introduced now to arrest the dramatic decline in the gold exploration and forecast production by improving gold explorers access to venture capital.
• The Council urges the Federal Government to follow the Federal Labor Party lead and commit itself to implementation of an Australian Flow Through Shares Scheme as a matter of urgency.

GTG Grants First License in New Zealand
GTG is pleased to report it has now reached agreement with Vialactia Biosciences (NZ) Limited, of Auckland, New Zealand, regarding the terms of a research and commercial license to the GTG non-coding patents.

Dairi Zinc-Lead Project-Bankable Feasibility Study
Herald advises that it will commence work immediately on components of the Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS). The recently completed Prefeasibility Study (PFS) indicated that a Mining Inventory of 6.323Mt @ 16.0% Zn, 9.9% Pb (22% zinc equivalent) can be extracted from the Anjing Hitam deposit. The BFS is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2004, at a cost of about US$2.7M.
Diamond drilling is expected to commence shortly and a program of about 7000m is initially planned. This drilling is intended to infill the current Measured and Indicated resource to Measured status. Holes will also serve to provide more detailed geotechnical and hydrological information and to provide sufficient core sample for more advanced metallurgical testwork. - Announcement

Basemetals Drilling Programme - Botswana
This is to inform you that the Company expects to commence a 1,100 metre reverse circulation (RC) drilling programme next week within the recently awarded Prospecting Licence 69/2003 in northwest Botswana ("Ngamiland") which has previously been explored by Billiton Botswana Pty Ltd ("Billiton").
Billiton drilled two percussion drillholes 1.5 kms apart into a geochemical anomaly 2.75 kms long and 0.35 kms wide. Significant zones of zinc (Zn), silver (Ag) and lead (Pb) mineralisation were intercepted - Announcement

September 11, 2003 – Vancouver New Guinea Gold Corporation (“the company”) is pleased to announce that it has engaged Canaccord Capital Corporation (“Canaccord”) to offer, by way of a Short Form Offering (“SFO”) up to 11,000,000 units of the Company to raise up to $1,210,000. Each unit will consist of a share and _ non-transferable warrant. Each whole warrant will be exercisable into an additional share for a period of one year from closing at an exercise price of $0.12. The units will be offered to buyers in British Columbia, Alberta and certain offshore jurisdictions.

Macarthur Coal achieves full year NPAT of A$10.9m
Record annual sales achieved on the back of increased equity in Coppabella
Macarthur Coal Limited (ASX:MCC, MCCG) reported a Net Profit After Tax (NPAT) of A$10.9 million for the year ended 30 June 2003 in the company's Full Year Financial Report released today.
The result falls within the upper range of the company's targeted A$10.1 - 11.1 million profit forecast, as advised to the market in April 2003, although A$4.5 million below the previous financial year's result. NPAT for the second half of the year was $5.8 million, up $0.8 million on the first half of the year.
The Coppabella Mine achieved record sales of 4.2Mt, with 2.2 Mt attributable to Macarthur Coal. The 311,000 tonne increase was driven by the company's increased interest in the Coppabella Mine (from 45% to 50%) and record sales at Coppabella. Consequently, Macarthur Coal recorded total revenues of $138.9 million for the year, up A$19.9 million on the previous year.
A final dividend of 1 cent per share fully franked was declared and together with the interim dividend of 3.2 cents per share, the annual dividend payment is 4.2 cents per share fully franked. The annual dividend accords with the company’s policy of paying approximately 50% of NPAT as dividends.
Commenting on the result, Macarthur Coal's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ken Talbot said that the company recorded a solid result despite difficult operating conditions.
"A number of factors have contributed to higher production costs, including the prolonged drought conditions experienced in the Bowen Basin, higher diesel fuel prices, and mining constrained to the Johnson and Creek pits pending completion of the Transport Infrastructure Corridor."
"Macarthur Coal has invested over $3 million in exploration during the year. We have identified at least 25 kilometres of strike length within the Coxendean sub-basin at depths of 100 metres or less. The projects comprise mainly PCI coal with some scope for coking coal and represent an upside for Macarthur Coal’s future plans.
“The movement in the A$:US$ exchange rate was detrimental to revenues on a dollar per tonne basis, however the impact was mitigated by the company’s favourable foreign exchange hedging contracts. Approximately 82% of sales for FY 2003 were covered by foreign exchange hedged contracts. The average foreign exchange rate was 52 cents. Macarthur Coal will continue to benefit from its hedging programme in FY2004 through having an average foreign exchange contract rate of 52.8 cents applying to 65% of coal revenues generated from Coppabella and Moorvale.
"Several significant events are due for completion over the next twelve months.
"The Moorvale Mine is expected to be fully operational by the end of December 2003, increasing our sales base.
"The Transport Infrastructure Corridor relocation project at Coppabella is on schedule and will allow access to the southern Coppabella coal reserves from February 2004," Mr Talbot said.
In addition, Macarthur Coal has agreed to purchase AMCI's interests in the Coppabella and Moorvale joint ventures for A$72.9 million. The transaction, subject to pre-emptive rights, will result in Macarthur Coal increasing its interests in the Coppabella and Moorvale mines. The transaction will provide Macarthur Coal with a greater share of the growing low volatile PCI coal market.

Sedimentary Holdings Ltd is pleased to announce the commencement of mine development at the Cracow Gold Project in joint venture with Newcrest Mining Ltd. The joint venture will develop a new underground mining operation at Cracow, in Queensland.
Sedimentary holds a 30% interest in the joint venture, with Newcrest Mining Ltd holding the balance and being manager.
Based on feasibility studies completed over the past two years, the Cracow Gold Project is expected to produce in excess of 680,000 ounces of gold over an initial 7 year mine life at total cash cost of $A220 per ounce and a total production cost of some $A360 per ounce.
Underground mining will be carried out from a decline access, the development of which will commence immediately.
First gold production is expected in the December quarter of 2004.

Clarification: New Gene Test for Superior Athletic Performance
On 5 September 2003, Genetic Technologies Limited (GTG-ASX) reported it had acquired from University of Sydney the world-wide and exclusive rights to commercialise a new genetic test for superior athletic performance.
Some stockholders apparently interpreted that announcement to mean GTG was simply committing to fund a new research project. That is not correct. The rights acquired by GTG from University of Sydney permit GTG to immediately set up and offer this test commercially, which GTG is now proceeding to do. GTG expects to record first revenues from this programme in the coming months and in turn, GTG will pay royalties to University of Sydney on such revenues.
GTG also gave some indication of potential market size for this test. This estimate still seems to be realistic. - Announcement

2003 Annual Report
During the year the Company undertook a re-evaluation of its Telfer project in Western Australia. The outcome of this re-evaluation has determined that the potential for discovering any resource akin to the Telfer Deeps style of mineralisation is most likely to be found at the East Thompson's Dome Prospect. The Company believes that whilst a very small but very high grade near surface resource exists at East Thompson's Dome, sufficient work has been conducted to date to negate the potential for the discovery of a significant near-surface open cut resource. However, it is believed that the potential for a resource similar to the Telfer Deeps style of mineralisation still exists at depth.
At Tim's Dome Prospect the Company believes that potential exists for stockwork type gold mineralisation in a similar, geological setting to that which exists at Newcrest's Telfer Main Dome.
At Perrinvale, a gold and basemetals exploration project west of Menzies in Western Australia in which the Company is earning equity from Heron Resources Ltd, the Company commenced negotiations with various Native Title Parties in an effort to consolidate the ground holding in the area. The Company believes that once tenements which have been applied for and are now subject to Native Title negotiations can be consolidated with tenements already granted, a much more effective exploration effort can be applied.
In Namibia, at the Tsumkwe Diamond Exploration Project, a significant amount of this years exploration budget was applied to conducting ground gravity surveys. Whilst several gravity anomalies were generated none of them proved to be kimberlites when drill tested. More recent geomorphological work which has been specifically directed at trying to determine the source area of the G10 garnets and macro diamonds found within the project, is tending to confirm a potential source area in the eastern regions of the project. The potential for the discovery of another kimberlite within the Gura area, where the Company has found three kimberlites to date, is demonstrated by the results the Company announced in its June 2003 quarterly report. A significant number of very fresh pyrope garnets were found in a drillhole drilled to the east of and up slope from the Gura kimberlite. The fact that these garnets did not show any signs of wear indicates that they must have shed from a kimberlite within close proximity to the drillhole.
On the eastern side of the tenement area, within proximity of the Namibia/Botswana border, the Company has obtained some very encouraging basemetals results from a geochemical sampling programme. These are currently in the process of being followed up.
Of particular note is the fact that on the Botswana side of the border from where these basemetals results were obtained, the Company has recently been granted Prospecting Licence P69/2003 for base and precious metals. This area in Botswana has previously been explored by Billiton Botswana (Pty) Ltd. Billiton obtained some very encouraging results and in its final report of July 1983 stated that the results suggested that there is potential for a large zinc/lead deposit.

Lakes Oil N.L. (“LKO”) wishes to advise that a pad has been completed at the site for “Patties Pies South No. 1”. The drilling rig is scheduled to arrive on site on Monday 15 September 2003 and work will commence at that time.
Patties Pies South is a follow-up well to the Patties Pies No. 1 drilled in March 2003. The location is adjacent to Jones Bay, approximately one kilometre to the south of the original well.
The well is designed to assess a structure to the south of a bore hole which has been producing gas with water to surface for some time. The gas coming to surface is of sufficient quantity to light and produce a flame of 1 – 2 metres in length, but is insufficient to be commercial. The gas appears to be coming from an area outside of closure.
Two structures have been identified by seismic. One to the north (the original Patties Pies No. 1 Well tested this structure unsuccessfully in March), the second to the south, which will be assessed by this well. The object of Patties Pies South Well is to assess if gas is present. Should this be the case Lakes Oil will need to case the hole and apply for permission to test.
Because of the location of the well, which is on the outskirts of the town of Bairnsdale, and the Victorian Governments initiative to reticulate gas to the town, the well could be very significant to our development of this lease. - For details - Announcement

There comes a point in every current account deterioration when enough is enough -- when foreign investors demand a premium to keep funding a saving-short economy. History tells us that such a breaking point usually occurs when the current account deficit hits 5% of GDP. That’s the threshold that typically triggers the classic current account adjustment process -- characterized by a weaker currency, higher real interest rates, and slower domestic demand that sparks a rebuilding of national saving (see Caroline L. Freund, "Current Account Adjustment in Industrialized Countries," Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System International Finance Discussion paper #692, December 2000).Americais at that threshold right now. Increasing Demand for Gold
According to the World Gold Council, the actual demand for Gold is Approximately 4000 ton/year.
Put this in perspective to the gold production of 2500 ton/year and declining to 2000 ton/year by 2010 ! The current deficit of 1500 ton/year has been filled for years by Central Bank sales/leasing, producer forward selling and scrap supply.
Is this sustainable ? Answer = No !
Demand for Gold will grow substantially (imo) due to the following :

• Deregulation of Chinese Gold Market
• Increase of use by Industrial Applications
Producer Dehedging
Gold Producers turned to net dehedgers this year and according to Newmont CEO Pierre Lassonde dehedging will continue at the rate of 300-400 ton/year thereby supporting the Bull Market in Gold.
Although some analysts may argue that producers will be stepping up their hedging activities again soon because of the rise in POG, the opposite is true.

Producer dehedging also featured high on the list of bullish indicators for the gold market, which he said was likely to continue at the rate of about 300-400t a year.
Lassonde expected gold price elasticity of about US$5/oz (increase) for every 100t of hedges closed out. He said the last of the 9.4 million ounces of hedged production Newmont inherited fromNormandywould be closed out inside of 18 months.

Australia's WMC exits gold hedge positions

SYDNEY, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Australia's WMC Resources Ltd said on Wednesday it had closed out hedge positions covering 370,200 ounces of gold in the half year to June 30, joining a legion of mining houses seeking greater exposure to world bullion prices.
"There is no doubt that hedging is falling among the mining companies," JP Morgan Securities Australia analyst Geoff Breen said.”
“World number two gold miner AngloGold Ltd removed about 800,000 ounces of gold from its hedge book in the last quarter, but still holds 8.3 million ounces pre-sold, although it continues to unwind its positions.”

Cambior, once burned, aims to slash gold hedging
TORONTO, Aug 12 (Reuters)–
Cambior Inc. (CA:CBJ) said on Tuesday it will all but wipe out its gold hedging program by the end of 2004 while the Rosebel project in Suriname is on schedule to sharply boost production early next year.
The mid-tier producer, whose hedging program nearly pushed the company into bankruptcy when gold prices surged in 2000, said it will slash its hedging to 50,000 ounces by the end of 2004 by accelerating deliveries and buying back positions.
In a conference call with analysts, the Montreal-based company said it has a new policy of not allowing additional gold hedging, unless funds are needed to be earmarked for future project financing.

In March the first ETF (Exchange Traded Fund) for Gold (Gold Bullion Limited) was introduced at the ASX stock exchange. This introduction makes it easier for investors to own physical Gold, listings inEuropeand US will follow soon.

Well, last year when the first trial took place regarding Gold bar sales, it just took two hours to sell the 15 kg of Gold bars leaving many with empty hands.
Customers Queue for Gold Bullion
Customers lined up to buy investment-grade gold bullion yesterday, when it went on sale for the first time in Shanghai since 1949 -- making a mockery of retailers that refused to sell gold bars earlier this week, claiming there was no demand for it due to high world prices.
Responding to numerous phone calls from eager buyers, Shanghai Lao Feng Xiang Co. Ltd., the city's leading gold jewelry processor and retailer, decided to sell 15 kilograms of bullion on a trial basis. It's safe to say the trial was a success as almost all the gold bars were sold within two hours yesterday afternoon.
Also the appetite for Gold mining shares is tremendous.
Two Chinese Gold Mining companies who went public lately (August 2003) experienced a tremendous investor demand for their shares. Both received much more orders than the amount of stock available ! Zhongjin received 824 times more orders than stock available and Shandong Gold received 2171 times more orders than stock available !
"Gold mining companies likeShandongand Zhongjin are favored by investors as they are assured of stable earnings as gold will always be in demand," said Fang Binyin, a trader at Guotai Junan Securities. “
So what to expect from the Chinese Gold Market coming years ?
According to Newmont CEO Pierre Lassonde the Chinese Gold Market will be the biggest Gold Market in just a few years time !
“Lassondesaid the 1 June deregulation of the Chinese gold market was an epoch making event for the gold market. Recently Herald announced that its sampling activities had discovered widespread areas of gold anomalism at the Meluak project in Sumatra, Indonesia. Whilst exploration is still at a very early stage, Herald has noted a similarity in the style of mineralization present at Meluak to several other large gold projects, and believes that further exploration on the project is very much warranted.
This belief is shared by leading Australian investment house Macquarie Bank Ltd ("Macquarie"), who, based on the results obtained by Herald, expressed a strong desire to invest directly in the project.
Given that Herald's financial resources are predominantly dedicated towards progressing the rich Dairi zinc/lead project, Herald decided that the best way of progressing the Meluak project was via a separate vehicle, namely Corona. To this end, Corona has:
Accordingly, by investing in Corona, Herald shareholders will be able to benefit from any exploration success at Meluak. Herald will also retain a direct shareholding in Corona of 10,000,000 shares.

Professor Easteal joins GTG Scientific Advisory Committee - Announcement
Inferred gold resources totalling ~40,000 contained ounces (at ~3.5 g/t gold plus significant other metal credits) located at/near surface in north central Tasmania, will be acquired by TasGold as preferred tenderer in Mineral Resources Tasmania’s competitive system for ERA 590 – Moina (subject to normal EL application procedures).
This modest base has excellent potential to develop into a much larger resource, as the deposits are open in many directions. TasGold plans to enhance the possibility of near term production at Moina by undertaking ~$500,000 drilling program over the next 12 months to extend the resources and test the extensive adjacent / nearby gold anomalous areas (many of which are untested by drilling).
ERA 590 / EL 29/2003 covers 35 named mineral occurrences in a relatively accessible 202 km2 area; it is traversed by a sealed road and numerous secondary and all weather 4 wheel drive tracks. The EL is expected to be granted in approximately 5-6 weeks.

AUSTRALIAN gold miners have recorded their first fiscal-year production increase in more than five years, producing 9.2 million ounces in 2002-03, a rise of almost 5%, according to Melbourne-based mining consultancy Surbiton Associates.
Surbiton managing director Sandra Close said much of the increase could be attributed to the ramp-up of existing operations such as Newcrest Mining's Ridgeway mine in New South Wales.
Production at Ridgeway built up steadily over the course of 2002-03, producing a total of 377,539oz and making it the fifth largest producing gold mine in the country.
The largest producing mine for the 12 months was Newmont Mining and Barrick Gold's equally owned Super Pit in Kalgoorlie with 807,442oz.
The next closest performer was Newmont's Granites and Goldrush operations in the Northern Territory's Tanamai region, producing 617,073oz.
Close also said the addition of several new operations to the scene, including LionOre Mining International's Thunderbox in Western Australia and Dominion Mining's Challenger mine in South Australia, helped to boost the numbers.
The June 2003 quarter was particularly strong for producers with output rising to 2.4Moz, a 10% rise on the March quarter and 8% higher than the June 2002 quarter.
"Output for the June quarter was the highest it has been in three years," Close said.
"This was due to a combination of higher ore treated and higher gold ore grades, probably prompted by the decline in the Australian dollar gold price since early 2003."
The Australian gold price peaked at around $645/oz in early February before falling to as low as $514/oz in late June.
"When gold prices fall mining companies tend to maintain their operating margins by increasing the grade of gold ore being treated," Close said.
"This results in higher gold output and lower costs per ounce of gold produced."
Australia currently produces gold from about 60 operations and is the third largest producer in the world after South Africa and the United States, with Western Australia providing close to 70% of the country's overall production.
