Wall Street retreated again Friday after readings on jobs and manufacturing indicated that businesses and workers still face a tough economy. The major indexes ended a turbulent week narrowly mixed. A huge quarterly loss at General Motors Corp. ($15.5 billion in the second quarter) and rising oil prices also gave investors reason to trade cautiously.
Advancing issues, however, narrowly outnumbered decliners Friday on the New York Stock Exchange, where volume came to a light 1.22 billion shares.
The Labor Department said jobs fell for the seventh straight month in July and the unemployment rate rose to 5.7 percent.
The Dow ended the week down 0.39 percent. The S&P finished the week up 0.21 percent, and the Nasdaq finished up 0.02 percent.
Oil prices ended slightly higher Friday, pushing back above $125 a barrel as the threat of a conflict with Iran rattled energy markets after a week of wild swings.
Copper prices fell 2 percent on Friday as a flurry of economic data from the United States still pointed to a severe slowdown and investors worried about metals demand.
Gold and silver fell as better-than-expected U.S. jobs data boosted the dollar and reduced demand for alternative assets.

Copper Update
Prairie Downs Metals Limited commenced the first drill program at the Costean Seven copper/lead prospect at the end of June 2008. Until the cessation of diamond drilling last week, a total of five holes were drilled. Three out of the five holes did not reach the target depths due to drilling problems and a total of only 821 metres was drilled. All the holes are mineralised....
Results from the first drill hole, PDD308, have previously been announced. Based upon visual observation of core, PDD309, 40 metres south of PDD308 is sporadically mineralised in copper and lesser amounts of zinc, lead and silver. PDD310, 311 and 312, 350 metres along strike and 40 metres apart, have sporadic lead mineralisation and lesser amounts of zinc, copper and silver. Assay results for all holes are not yet available and will be released as soon as we receive the same.
The geology in the area is very complex and requires further drilling to gain a better understanding. Many different rock types have been intersected and alteration, particularly silicification, is extensive. Areas of significant alteration are often mineralised.
It is believed that the high grade surface copper mineralisation at Costean Seven has come from a primary source. The first drill program, a total of five holes, did not discover that source. An RC drill program is planned at the Costean Seven prospect in the September quarter to further target the copper mineralisation. RC drilling is more economical and can drill up to 300 metres a day rather than the 120 metres that diamond drilling should be able to complete. ..... - Web Site

40% CAPACITY INCREASE CONFIRMED FOR SANTA RITA
Mirabela Nickel Limited (TSX: MNB, ASX: MBN) is pleased to announce that the Santa Rita project is now being engineered and constructed for a 6.4 mtpa throughput capacity, up 40% from 4.6 mtpa. This reflects an average annual production rate of 27,000tpa of nickel in concentrate assuming a resource grade of 0.61% Ni and a recovery rate of 70%. The Company plans to complete ramp up to the full 6.4mtpa throughput rate by mid 2010.
The increase in throughput rate optimizes the project's value in light of the increasing resource size at a relatively low incremental cost. The estimated sunk capital cost of the revised 6.4 mtpa project is US$387m and includes plant, infrastructure, land acquisition, port upgrade, first fills, spares and contingency. The new capital cost estimate represents a 20% increase over the previous estimate of US$322m for the 4.6mtpa project..... - Web Site

NEW RESOURCE ESTIMATE OF 13.7 MILLION BARRELS OIL FOR PENDALIAN FIELD, INDONESIA
1,800 - 2,000 BOPD PRODUCTION ANTICIPATED IN Q4 2008
Oilex Ltd (ASX: OEX; AIM: OEX) is pleased to report that a Plan of Development (POD) including an updated resource assessment for the Pendalian Oil Field (Oilex 45%) located in the West Kampar Production Sharing Contract ("PSC") area in Indonesia (Fig. 1) is being submitted to the Indonesian Government for approval. The POD is based on a Best Estimate Contingent Resource of 13.7 million barrels oil in place (mmstboip) (Table 1). The represents an increase of 14% on the resource announced previously which was based on a single oil reservoir.
The objective of the POD is to bring Pendalian Field into production in 2 phases comprising 2 wells in phase 1 and full field development of 3-4 wells in phase 2. The previous plan was to start production at a likely rate of about 1,200 barrels of oil per day ("bopd") from a single well, Pendalian-3 and that first phase has now been expanded to include a second well, Pendalian-4 with a corresponding increase in the likely production rate to 1,800 - 2,000 bopd (100% basis) anticipated in Q4 2008. - Web Site

LUMBA LUMBA-1A EXPLORATION WELL UPDATE
Tap Oil Limited ("Tap") provides the following information on the Lumba Lumba-1 exploration well.
Location
The Lumba Lumba-1 exploration well is located in permit SC 41 at an approximate latitude of 6o 11' 12.77"N and longitude 119o 15' 33.58"E. The permit is located in the Sulu Sea, Philippines, approximately 135 km off the northeastern coast of Borneo.
Progress
Drilling operations are proceeding at the Lumba Lumba-1A following the abandonment of the Lumba Lumba-1 well on 25 July due to mechanical problems during cementing the 20" casing. Lumba Lumba-1A well has since progressed to 1,469 meters Measured Depth and is currently drilling ahead.
Lumba Lumba-1A is planned to drill to a total depth of around 3,000 metres Measured Depth in a water depth of 1,100 m and is planned to take an additional 14 days to reach the total well depth.
Tap Comment
Lumba Lumba is a moderate risk prospect located in the central part of SC 41. It is covered by the Alpine 3D Seismic Survey, which was acquired in 3Q 2007. The well will test a large inversion structure with multiple objectives in interpreted channel and fan complexes. Estimated recoverable volumes are in the 50–150 million barrels range.
Tap believes that SC 41 has the potential to be a "game changer" for the company as it contains numerous prospective features of substantial size. Various independent play concepts exist in SC 41 that are being matured for drilling regardless of the Lumba Lumba-1 results. Encouragement is provided by offset wells which demonstrate a working petroleum system. Nevertheless, although minor oil has been recovered from some wells, reservoir development and the identification of sand-prone fairways remains technically challenging and is recognised as the main exploration risks in the area. - Web Site

Wall Street sank Thursday, after weak readings on economic growth and the job market touched off renewed concerns about the financial health of businesses and consumers. The Commerce Department's report that gross domestic product grew at a 1.9 percent pace in the second quarter disappointed investors.
Investors were also concerned about Labor Department data saying that the number of people seeking jobless benefits jumped to the highest level in five years.
Declining issues outpaced advancers by about 3 to 2 on the New York Stock Exchange. Consolidated volume came to 5.16 billion shares, up from 5.06 billion shares.
Oil prices pulled back Thursday, wiping out some gains from the previous day's $4 a barrel rally, as traders bet that a cooling U.S. economy will continue to eat into U.S. demand for fuel.
Gold gained the most this week after a report showed weaker-than-expected U.S. growth in the second quarter, sending the US dollar tumbling and boosting the appeal of the metal as an alternative investment. Copper and silver also rose.
Zinc rose on expectations a decision by China, the largest producer and user of the metal, to remove a tax break on exports will curb supply to global markets.

Summary
Uranium Mineralisation on Playford
Uranium Exploration Australia Limited (ASX: UXA) received assay results indicating an average of 113 ppm U3O8 across a 15 metre interval (14 metres true thickness) from 616 metres in drillhole 08PD04C on EL 3430 - Playford on the Stuart Shelf in South Australia.
08PD04C was drilled by UXA on behalf of the joint venture between UXA and RIL (Australia), with drilling completed on 31 March 2008. Uranium is associated with a band of coarse pebble conglomerate within the Pandurra Formation.
Acquisition of Prompt Fission Neutron Technology
UXA has completed the acquisition of a 3rd generation prompt fission neutron tool for use in its ongoing uranium exploration program. Prompt fission neutron (PFN) is a unique geophysical wire-line logging technology used for the direct measurement of uranium in boreholes.
By acquiring its own PFN tool, UXA becomes only the third company in Australia to own and use this unique technology, and the only grassroots exploration company in Australia to do so. UXA will begin utilising PFN technology on its upcoming drilling program at its Yeelirrie South East prospect in Western Australia and its Crystal Creek prospect in the Northern Territory.
Drill Program Summary
UXA continued its aggressive exploration and drilling programme with a total of 9,275 of metres drilling in the 2008 financial year across its tenements in South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory and New South Wales (Figure 1). - Web Site

UPDATE ON OPERATIONS AT THE SUGARLOAF AMI
Aurora Oil & Gas ("Aurora") is able to provide the market with an update on operations within the Sugarloaf AMI, which is part of the Sugarkane Gas and Condensate Field.
Kowalik #1H
Aurora has been advised by the operator, Texas Crude Energy Inc ("TCEI"), that as of 06:00hrs 30/07/08 (US CST) the Kowalik #1H well had reached a depth of 6,126ft in the 8 3/4" hole section and was drilling ahead. Since the last operational update the 13 3/8" and 9 5/8" casing have both been run and cemented, with the latter at a depth of 6,020 ft.
This vertical section of the well will be drilled as a pilot hole down to approximately 11,970 ft through the chalk. This will then be logged, plugged back and the well sidetracked in the 8 3/4" hole size to the top of the chalk before 7" casing is run prior to drilling the horizontal section. The well is planned to have a 6,000ft horizontal section and is targeting the upper pay interval that has been reported as successfully producing gas and condensate in three wells in the adjacent acreage. The Joint Venture is working towards this being the first in a continuous sequence of 4 wells.
Kennedy #1H
Aurora has been advised by TCEI that following fracture stimulation operations, which took place on Thursday 3rd July and subsequent clean out operations, the well has continued to flow at 30 - 40 bbls of condensate per day with associated gas and minor volumes of fracture fluid. Over 5,000 bbls of fracture fluids have not been recovered from the most recent stimulation. The present production rates originate from 17ft of perforations in the bottom 600 ft of the horizontal section. - Web Site

SUGARLOAF OPERATIONS UPDATE
Eureka Energy Limited ("Eureka") is pleased to provide the market with an update on
operations within the Sugarloaf Area of Mutual Interest ("AMI").
Kowalik #1H
Eureka has been advised by the operator, Texas Crude Energy Inc ("TCEI"), that as of
06:00hrs 30/07/08 (US CST) the Kowalik #1H well had reached a depth of 6,126ft in the
8 3/4" hole section and was drilling ahead. Since the last operational update the 13 3/8" and
9 5/8" casing have both been run and cemented, with the latter at a depth of 6,020 ft.
This vertical section of the well will be drilled as a pilot hole down to approximately 11,970 ft
through the chalk. This will then be logged, plugged back and the well sidetracked in the 8
3/4" hole size to the top of the chalk before 7" casing is run prior to drilling the horizontal
section. The well is planned to have a 6,000ft horizontal section and is targeting the upper
pay interval that has been reported as successfully producing gas and condensate in three
wells in the adjacent acreage. The Joint Venture is working towards this being the first in a
continuous sequence of 4 wells.

Corporate Developments
Lakes Oil announced at the end of July that it had signed a non-binding terms sheet with Cape Energy SA in respect of a potential business combination of the two companies.
The intention of the two companies is to combine the Golden Beach asset with Lakes Oils' tight gas plays. Shareholders will be kept informed of the progress of negotiations.
Lakes Oil has engaged an independent consultant to conduct an assessment of possible contingent reserves of the Wombat field.
This evaluation is currently being undertaken and includes 3D seismic data. This report will provide an initial assessment which can be finalised once Wombat 4 is drilled. - Web Site

Rossing South Targeted Exploration Potential
Extract Resources ("the Company"), (TSX:EXT;ASX:EXT), a Uranium exploration company with projects in Namibia, Africa, today announced a preliminary exploration target at Rossing South of between 126 and 198 million pounds U3O8.
Deep Reverse Circulation drilling at Rossing South has proceeded smoothly since the resumption of field work on the Husab Project in mid January 2008 where approximately 22,600 metres have been drilled at Rossing South (81 angled RC holes, together with 755 metres in two angled diamond holes).
Drill sections spaced at 400 metres along strike have defined two significant zones of uranium mineralization (Zone 1 and Zone 2), with a cumulative strike length of approximately 3 kilometres (see Appendix 1). The intervening ground separating the two zones remains unexplored....- Web Site

NZOG Reports 12 Month Revenue of $234.6 Million
New Zealand Oil & Gas Ltd (NZOG) is pleased to report that revenue for the three months to 30 June was $80.9 million, taking revenue for the full 2007/08 financial year to $234.6 million.
NZOG has today released its June Quarterly Activities Report and Cash Flow Report.
The 12 month revenue figure of $234.6m compares to revenue of $4.2m in the previous financial year.
The outstanding result is based around the highly successful Tui Area Oilfields off the Taranaki coast, in which NZOG holds a 12.5% stake.
NZOG's Tui revenue for the year ended 30 June 2008 was $222.8m . There was also a gain recognised from the successful float of Pike River Coal Ltd and some other small non-Tui revenue items. - Web Site

Prairie Downs Base Metals Project
Feasibility Results
The Prairie Downs Base Metal Project is located approximately 100 kilometres southwest of Newman in the Eastern Pilbara region of Western Australia. At the current time the project hosts a total Global Resource of 4.7 million tonnes at a grade of 6.3% zinc, 18g/t silver and 1.8% lead at a nominal lower cut off grade of 1% zinc. It remains open at depth and along strike. This resource contains 295,000 tonnes of zinc, 2.6 million ounces of silver and 83,000 tonnes of lead. It includes a High Grade Resource of 1.6 million tonnes at a grade of 12.3% zinc, 36g/t silver and 3.7% lead. The silver grade appears to be under reported according to metallurgical testwork which will be confirmed by further analysis.
Abesque Engineering & Construction Ltd was engaged in October 2007 to complete a feasibility study covering the process plant and related supporting surface infrastructure. This study is now complete and the results are summarised below.
The process facilities have been designed to treat 500,000 tonnes per annum of base metal ore, which at a 91.3% availability equates to a throughput rate of 62.5 tonnes per hour. It is designed to allow expansion to a throughput of 1,000,000 tpa. The crushing plant will operate on day shift seven days per week. The milling, flotation and dewatering areas will operate around the clock seven days per week.
Metallurgical testwork indicates that the process plant will produce 113,240 dry tonnes of zinc concentrate per annum and 18,022 dry tonnes of silver concentrate per annum. The overall zinc recovery is 92%, lead 94.8% and silver 96.1%.
The zinc concentrate will grade 50.3% zinc and 121ppm silver for annual production of 57,000 tonnes of zinc metal and 200,000 ounces of silver metal. The silver concentrate will grade 1255ppm silver and 63.6% lead for annual production of 385,500 ounces of silver metal and 11,700 tonnes of lead metal.
The estimated capital expenditure for the process plant and supporting infrastructure is AUD86 million based on the May 2008 dollar, being made up of a cost for the process plant of AUD52 million at ± 10% and a cost of AUD34 million at ± 20% for the supporting infrastructure.
Operating costs from the ROM pad to delivery of concentrate to Port Hedland (or an equivalent port) have been calculated at AUD41/tonne milled while processing at 500,000 tpa rate. The largest operating cost component is concentrate transport, followed in order by power supplied from gas generators and personnel.
The mining feasibility has not been completed as resource drilling is about to recommence on the Main and Zed Lodes which is expected to lead to a substantial increase in the resource base. In addition the copper discoveries this year and lead discovery last year have improved the probability of discovering open-pittable mineralization. However, based upon pre-feasibility work completed last year, underground mining by long hole open stope or similar is the preferred mining method. Costs are expected to be of the order of $55 per tonne mined including development costs.
Port storage and handling has not been finalized but is assumed to be USD25 per tonne of concentrate and sea freight is assumed to be USD75 per tonne of concentrate.
The construction schedule assumes all environmental approvals and government licenses are granted by February 2010. On this basis commissioning is expected in December 2010 and handover in February 2011.
Resource Drilling
Resource drilling of the Main and Zed Lodes is expected to commence by the end of July. The primary objective is to increase the high grade resource to approximately 2.5 million tonnes which would allow for five years of high grade production.
The Gabbro Lode will also be targeted. The mineralisation here is of disseminated or replacement type rather than the vein style of the other lodes and therefore may be indicating the presence of stratiform mineralization at depth. Such mineralisation is likely to much more extensive that the vein style of the other lodes.
The Company has previously reported copper results at Prairie Downs in the footwall to Main Lode. Nineteen holes have intersected copper at greater than 0.5%, with the best results being: DDH6, 1.2 metres at 6.5% copper, 28g/t silver, DDH9, 1.5 metres at 2.7% copper, and PDD196 which intersected 3.4 metres at 2.8% copper, 12.2g/t silver, including 0.9 metres at 6.4% copper, 28.2g/t silver. This mineralisation will also be targeted with the objective of potentially defining an inaugural copper resource.

A total of five diamond drill holes have been completed at Costean Seven. The target was copper mineralization outcropping at surface and in costeans and outcropping lead mineralisation. All holes intersected sporadic copper, zinc, lead and silver mineralisation, in some cases over substantial widths; however the source of the surface mineralisation has not yet been discovered. Assay results are not yet available.
The geology is complex and drilling intersected rock types that have not been previously observed. Alteration, particularly silicification, is extensive.
Drilling problems saw most holes not making target depths which lead to termination of the program. RC drilling of Costean Seven and other copper prospects is planned for the September quarter in conjunction with resource drilling. - Web Site

HIGHLIGHTS
Platinum Australia increases stake in Smokey Hills Platinum Mine from 59% to 69.75%
Platinum Australia ("PLA") announced in May that it had signed binding agreements to acquire a further 10.75% of the Smokey Hills Platinum Project, lifting its stake to 69.75%. This was achieved in two transactions, in the first PLA acquired an additional 6.75% for a cash consideration of approximately $5.5 Million and in the second PLA is acquiring a further 4% in exchange for one million ordinary shares in PLA.
Progress at Smokey Hills
At Smokey Hills, construction of the plant and related infrastructure continued during the period with all major contracts now awarded and the Earthworks, Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Contractors all working on site. Open Pit Mining is progressing well with over 100,000 tonnes of ore now exposed and ready for mining when the Run of Mine stockpile pad is completed.
Successful Placing to Raise $31.8 million
PLA announced in May that it had received commitments for $31.8 million in a private placement of 12 million new ordinary shares at $2.65 per share.
New Mineral Resource for Crux, Crater and Orion Deposits
In May, PLA announced that updated Mineral Resource estimates for the Crux, Orion and Crater Deposits in the Kalahari Platinum ("Kalplats") Project had been completed, with significant increases in both the Crux and Crater Deposits.
Results from the Resource Drilling Program at the Kalahari Platinum Project
Results from the ongoing resource drilling program at the Kalplats Project, announced during the quarter, provided further evidence of wide zones of good grade mineralisation in the Sirius deposit. In addition, further results from the drilling of the newly discovered Mira Prospect continued to identify wide zones of good grade mineralisation.
PLA Issued Prospecting Right for Further Kalahari Extension
In June, PLA announced that a Prospecting Right had been issued for a further extension to the Company's Kalplats Project. The new extension was issued to Stellex Platinum (Pty) Ltd ("Stellex") a joint venture company owned 49% by PLA and 51% by Batsalani Mining & Resources (Pty) Ltd ("Batsalani"). The new extension covers an area of approximately 26 kilometres of strike length to the north of the existing "Extended" project area. - Web Site

Rio Tinto to invest US$2.15 billion in major expansion of Corumbá iron ore mine in Brazil
Rio Tinto will invest US$2.15 billion in a major expansion of its iron ore mine in Corumbá, Brazil, boosting annual capacity of the mine more than six-fold from 2 million tonnes per annum to 12.8 million tonnes, with new production commencing in the fourth quarter of 2010. The company will also undertake a feasibility study, to be completed by mid-2009, for a Phase II expansion that would take capacity to 23.2 million tonnes per annum.
The Corumba investment brings to nearly US$11 billion the total capital expenditure that Rio Tinto has committed since 2003 to develop its iron ore business. Rio Tinto outlined a global pathway to grow iron ore production to more than 600Mtpa from 179Mtpa in 2007 late last year *.
The expansion of Corumbá, which produces high-quality blast-furnace lump and direct reduction products, will capitalise on increasing demand for iron ore in South America and the Middle East, and increase Rio Tinto's presence in Europe. - Web Site

Wall Street soared for the second straight day Wednesday, rallying in the last hour of trading after a rebound in financial stocks and optimism about private sector jobs. Automatic Data Processing said private sector employment rose by 9,000 this month.
Investors brushed off a sharp jump in oil prices.
Oil prices soared over $4 a barrel Wednesday after a surprise drop in U.S. gasoline supplies fed speculation that record fuel prices aren't keeping Americans off the roads.
Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by about 2 to 1 on the New York Stock Exchange, where consolidated volume came to 5.06 billion shares from 5.11 billion in the previous session.
Copper jumped on renewed concern that supplies from Mexico won't recover anytime soon.
Gold ended more than 1 percent lower Wednesday, erasing early heavy losses as a late crude oil rally offset an initial US dollar rise and equities gains.

ROC and AEL Merger
Independent Expert finds Merger Fair and Reasonable
On 16 June 2008 Roc Oil Company Limited ("ROC") and Anzon Energy Limited ("AEL") announced their intention to merge by way of scheme of arrangement ("Merger").
The Federal Court of Australia has today ordered the convening of a meeting of shareholders of AEL ("Scheme Meeting") to enable a vote to be taken on the proposed Merger. The Scheme Meeting will be held at 10am (AEST) on 3 September 2008 at Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Level 32, Governor Phillip Tower, 1 Farrer Place, Sydney, Australia.
Deloitte Corporate Finance Pty Limited, who were commissioned by AEL to prepare an independent expert's report on the Merger, have concluded that the Merger is fair and reasonable and therefore in the best interests of AEL shareholders.
The Boards of each of ROC and AEL have unanimously agreed to pursue the Merger. The AEL Board has unanimously recommended that AEL shareholders vote in favour of the resolution to approve the Merger at the Scheme Meeting, in the absence of a superior proposal. - Web Site
Report for Quarter Ended 30 June 2008
CEO COMMENTS
On 16 June 2008, ROC announced its proposed merger with Anzon Energy Limited and its off-market takeover offer for Anzon Australia Limited. If successful, ROC's business and future growth profile will be transformed, with 2P Reserves increasing by over 135% and 2008 production expected to increase to approximately 14,000 BOEPD. The Company's operating cash flow will be significantly increased during a time of record oil prices and ROC will be exposed to upside reserves potential through further development of the Basker Manta Gummy fields in Bass Strait, offshore Victoria.
ROC's development and production operations continue strongly, with record oil prices and YTD production of over 10,000 BOEPD, in line with previous estimates, generating YTD sales revenue of US$179 million.
Progress on the Zhao Dong development project in Bohai Bay, offshore China, has been excellent in a challenging industry environment. The project remains on schedule for first oil from the C4 Oil Field and Extended Reach Area ("ERA") of the C & D Oil Fields in 4Q 2008, while development drilling on the C & D Oil Fields successfully returned gross production to approximately 20,000 BOPD at Quarter end.
During the Quarter, exploration drilling results from the Cabinda South Block, onshore Angola, were mixed, with the Coco well, which targeted deeper pre-salt plays, intersecting two hydrocarbon bearing sands. However, drill stem testing on the well was not conclusive and further testing of the well is being planned for late 2008/early 2009.
Subsequent to the end of the Quarter, the Sesamo exploration well reached Total Depth of 3,013 mBRT and wireline logging was completed. The well confirmed the presence of the targeted pre-salt reservoir sands. However, with no hydrocarbon shows, the well will be plugged and abandoned as a dry hole.
While we are experiencing a period of volatility in commodity and equity markets, the events and results during the Quarter have continued to move the Company towards achieving ROC's stated goal of establishing a substantial reserve base and sustainable production revenue through a diversified portfolio. - Web Site

Wall Street shot higher Tuesday, gaining back the previous session's sharp losses and then some, after a drop in oil prices and a rise in consumer confidence gave investors some hope for a letup in Americans' financial woes.
But on the downside, there was more data pointing to a still sinking housing market. S&P/Case-Shiller said its 20-city index for May fell 15.8 percent from a year earlier -- the sharpest drop since its inception in 2000. The narrower 10-city index is down 16.9 percent, the biggest decline in its 21-year history.
Advancing issues outnumbered by nearly 4 to 1 on the New York Stock Exchange. Consolidated volume came to a moderate 5.11 billion shares, up from 4.16 billion shares Monday.
Oil prices tumbled more than $2 a barrel Tuesday, finishing at their lowest level in seven weeks as a stronger US dollar and beliefs that record prices are eroding the world's thirst for energy sparked another dramatic sell-off.
More concerns that crude's run-up over the past year has pushed prices to unsustainable levels fed Tuesday's decline. The U.S. Transportation Department said Monday that U.S. drivers logged 9.6 billion fewer vehicle miles in May -- or 3.7 percent -- compared to the same period last year, the biggest drop ever for the historically busy summer driving month.
Copper fell on concern that a sagging global economy will erode demand for the metal used in pipes and wires.
Gold fell as a strengthening dollar and falling oil prices curbed demand for raw materials as a hedge against inflation. Silver also dropped.

DRILLING REPORT - 28 July 2008
WELL NAME: Cobra 1A ST1 & ST2, PNG
Oil Search reports that the PPL 190 participants have decided to drill a second sidetrack on the Cobra 1A well. As at 0600 on 28 July, operations had been completed on Cobra 1A ST1 and drilling is now underway on Cobra 1A ST2.
Since the last drilling update, running of logs over the Cobra 1A ST1 sidetrack section has been completed. Interpretation of the log data indicates that the targeted Hedinia Sandstone contains an upper and lower sand lobe. The lower lobe is interpreted to be water-bearing. The upper lobe is thinner than expected but is interpreted to contain hydrocarbons. It was not possible to obtain reliable pressure measurements in the sand to confirm this interpretation. It was therefore decided to drill a further short sidetrack to intersect a thicker section of the upper Hedinia Sandstone and undertake further evaluation to confirm the presence and type of hydrocarbons.
Cobra 1A ST1 is located in PPL 190 and lies 13 kilometres east of the SE Gobe oil field and 7 kilometres east of the Bilip oil discovery. - Web Site

Third Raven Well Completion Update
The fracture stimulation in the Cotton Valley Price formation (the first of two discovered zones) of the Patterson 16 No.1 well in the Raven project was completed over the weekend. Most of the fracture treatment fluid has now been recovered from the formation and the well has been shut in pending fracture stimulation of the primary zone, the C Sand formation, later this week. Following this, production from both zones will be comingled to assist in the recovery of the balance of the fracture treatment fluid and production of natural gas and condensate from both formations.
The well will be connected directly to the gas gathering line and gas and condensate sales should commence late next week. We will monitor the well's performance during this time as the fractured formations continue to clean up and reliable flows of natural gas and condensate are established. We will provide an update at that time. - Web Site

Wall Street again surrendered to investors' anxiety about the financial sector Monday, sending the Dow Jones industrials down almost 240 points and back into bear market territory. The flight from equities sent investors into safe-haven bets like Treasury bonds.
An International Monetary Fund report added to some of the stress in the market. The IMF predicted continuing problems in the credit and housing market that will continue to hurt the financial industry. It said, "at the moment a bottom for the housing market is not visible."
On Friday, federal officials closed branches of the 1st National Bank of Nevada and First Heritage Bank N.A. -- owned by Scottsdale, Ariz.-based First National Bank Holding Co., adding to investors' jitters about the ability of some banks to stay afloat.
Declining issues outnumbered advancers by more than 3 to 1 on the New York Stock Exchange, where consolidated volume came to 4.16 billion shares, down from 4.55 billion on Friday.
The US government's budget deficit will surge past a half-trillion dollars next year, according to gloomy new estimates, a record flood of red ink that promises to force the winner of the presidential race to dramatically alter his economic agenda.
Crude oil was little changed after rising yesterday as Royal Dutch Shell Plc reduced Nigerian production because of an attack on a pipeline by militants.
Copper rose in New York as a weaker US dollar and higher energy prices boosted demand for commodities as a hedge against inflation.
PROJECT UPDATE: GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS IN SWEDEN
Goldsearch Limited (ASX: GSE) is pleased to provide an update on the progress at the properties in Sweden over which it recently negotiated an option agreement.
In May 2008, Goldsearch entered into a Euro 1 million option/farm-in agreement with Toronto-listed Tumi Resources (TSXV: TM) to potentially earn a 70% interest in four tenements within the Bergslagen district, which is one of Europe's significant mining provinces. The district is located approximately 200km northwest of Stockholm, and hosts a number of iron, manganese, base-metal and silver deposits
As part of the agreement, Goldsearch will fund a skyTEM airborne electromagnetic (EM) and magnetic survey over the tenements to provide field exploration targets. The survey was recently completed, with final data and reports for the three individual areas anticipated by the end of the September 2008 Quarter.
To date, Goldsearch has received data for the high priority Hällefors area. At Hällefors, a single exploration license covering 794 hectares in size hosts numerous silver, lead and zinc mineral occurrences which collectively represent Sweden's second largest area of silver production. Mining commenced in this area in the mid-1600's, with production focussed on two areas, the Eastern Mines and the Western Mines. The Eastern Mines are associated with a stratabound exhalative zone with associated iron-rich and manganiferous sediments and have large tonnage potential. The Western zone mines consist of narrow, very high grade remobilised mineralisation in fissure veins. Goldsearch is targeting extensions to the Eastern Zone mineralisation and potential sources at depth for the remobilised Western Zone mines..... - Web Site

Quarterly Activities Report
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
EASTERN STRUCTURE (Lindsays Project)
During the quarter, RC drilling was concentrated on hitting high grade shoots along the Eastern Structure over a strike distance of approximately 500 metres.
Two RC drill rigs were commissioned to drill along the Parrot Feathers-Trial Pit strike to better determine the high grade ore shoots. Close-spaced drilling at Parrot Feathers-Copperline- Trail Pit determined the beginnings of a folded subvertical structure containing quartz stockwork gold mineralisation associated with black shale and metasediments.
The programme to date has proved successful and when completed a resource upgrade will be undertaken. Modelling of randomly selected sections have indicated an increase in the grade due to selected drilling.
CENTRAL STRUCTURE (Lindsays Project)
A second RC rig was commissioned to drill along this structure over a distance of 1.2 kilometres. A grid pattern was designed and surveyed to enable an indicated JORC compliant resource to be calculated when drilling is completed.
The drilling programmes will continue into the next quarter and the Company hopes for similar successes......- Web Site

SIMPSON-10 WELL DISCOVERY
Tap Oil Limited ("Tap") provides the following information for the Simpson 10 development well.
Location
The Simpson-10 objective is located in permit TL/6, part of the Harriet Joint Venture, at a surface location of latitude 20°40'24.14"S and longitude 115°35'05.61 "E within the Barrow sub-basin. The Simpson-10 prospect is approximately 2.5 km south of Varanus Island and is being drilled from the Simpson Bravo Platform using the Ensco 106 jack-up rig.
Progress
Simpson-10 has successfully intersected the reservoir objective. Logging over the Flag sandstone indicates an approximate 15 metre gross intersection of oil bearing reservoir. Current operations involve installing the 178mm liner and completion of the well. The Ensco 106 rig will then be moved back to Simpson 9 to run the completion after which both wells will be tied in for production.
Tap Comment
Tap is pleased with operations on Simpson-10 progressing ahead of schedule and the discovery of an oil bearing interval at the Flag sandstone objective although it is at the lower end of our pre-drill expectations. Production from Simpson-10 is expected to commence in December in line with the repairs to the Harriet Joint Venture processing facilities on Varanus Island. - Web Site

DRILLING DISCOVERS A NEW ZONE AND EXTENDS HENRY5 & HENRY5 NORTH AT WILUNA
SUBSTANTIAL INDICATED RESOURCE INCREASE EXPECTED
Following its recent commitment to develop the Wiluna and Wilsons gold projects, Apex Minerals NL (ASX: AXM) is pleased to announce further encouraging results from underground drilling at Wiluna which has discovered a new zone known as Baldric. The results from recent drilling are also expected to lead to a substantial increase in the Indicated Resource in the Henry5-Henry5 North area.
A resource statement was announced on 27th May and an initial Probable Reserve based on the Indicated portion of this resource was announced on 23rd June 2008. Both of these statements were based on drilling undertaken to the end of April 2008. A revised resource estimate will be completed during the September quarter.
Baldric & Henry5 Footwall (50 lens)
Drilling beneath the Henry5 footwall zone has intersected significant mineralisation, comprising:
This intersection, together with a previous intersection of 18.7m @ 11.4g/t gold (est. 9.4m true width) in hole CADH784A, defines a new zone of mineralisation known as Baldric (Table 1 & Figure 1).
Infill drilling in the Henry5 Footwall zone has also intersected wider zones of mineralisation than previously encountered (Table 1 & Figure 1). Better intersections include:

RUBICON UNIT FORMED TO EXPLORE THE BAXTER SHALE, FIRST WELL SPUDS IN JULY
As part of the joint venture arrangement with Devon Energy Corporation, Samson has joined the Rubicon Unit which is in the process of being formed in the southern part of the Green River Basin. The unit area comprises around 40,000 acres of which Samson currently holds 6,400 acres. This unit allows for the underlying leases to be held outside the applicable lease terms but are held so long as the terms of the unit agreement with the Bureau of Land Management are being met which normally includes a continuous drilling program.
The formation of the Rubicon Unit affects no change to the previous commercial arrangement entered into between Devon and Samson, which in summary allows Devon to earn up to 50% in the Samson leases whilst Samson retains the balance...... - Web Site

CORPORATE
YTC PLACES 2.7M SHARES AT $1 PER SHARE TO YUNNAN TIN
YTC has raised $2.7m in a placement to its major shareholder, Yunnan Tin. YTC welcomes Yunnan Tin's ongoing support of YTC and its strong endorsement of the Company's projects.
TALLEBUNG PROJECT
BROAD TIN, TUNGSTEN & SILVER INTERSECTIONS FROM DIAMOND DRILLING
Results for the first two of six diamond holes at Tallebung have been received. Drilling has confirmed strong tin, silver and tungsten mineralisation. Selected intersection include:
Three of the four remaining holes exhibit broad intervals of mineralised quartz veining. Logging and sampling of the remaining holes is now being completed.
These results are consistent with the project target of a bulk mineable tintungsten- silver deposit.
DORADILLA PROJECT FURTHER STRONG NICKEL RESULTS FROM AIRCORE DRILLING
Further encouraging results have been received from 42 shallow aircore drill holes completed at the Doradilla Project. The drilling has confirmed nickel mineralisation for a cumulative strike length of over 4.2km. The results are interpreted to represent secondary nickel developed above ‘Avebury' style nickel sulphides. Selected intersections include:
Three diamond drill holes to test the nickel sulphide zone will commence in the last week of July.
KADUNGLE PROJECT ENCOURAGING COPPER-GOLD INTERSECTIONS
Hole KDD013 has returned broad intervals of copper-gold mineralisation. Best results include:
YTC remains strongly encouraged by results at Kadungle and by the presence of a large, low-grade, porphyry copper-gold mineralised system.- Web Site
