Wall Street plunged Friday, hurtling the Dow Jones industrial average down more than 280 points after comments from a major investment bank exacerbated the market's fears of a widening credit crunch. The catalyst was Bear Stearns Cos. Chief Financial Officer Sam Molinaro, who described turmoil in the credit market as the worst he'd seen in 22 years. In addition, the Labor Department said nonfarm payrolls rose just 92,000 last month, less than the 132,000 jobs created in June and below the average forecast of about 135,000.

The Institute for Supply Management said its non-manufacturing index, which measures service sector activity, fell in July to 55.8 from 60.7 in June. Wall Street had expected a reading of 59, according to Thomson Financial/IFR.

Declining issues outnumbered advancers by about 5 to 1 on the New York Stock Exchange, where consolidated volume came to 4.54 billion shares compared with 4.18 billion traded Thursday.

Despite the day's loss, the index was off only 0.63 percent for the week.

For the week, the S&P fell 1.77 percent, while the Nasdaq fell 1.99 percent.

The Friday session also saw a notable rise in the bond market, as investors fled to the relative safety of fixed-income investments. The yield on benchmark 10-year Treasury note fell to 4.68 percent from 4.77 percent late Thursday.

Crude oil futures settled down $1.38 at $75.42 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange after the employment report suggested the economy could slow and demand for oil could fall.

Copper in New York dropped the most in eight weeks on speculation that an economic slowdown in the U.S., the world's second-largest consumer of the metal, will reduce demand.

Nickel headed for a second consecutive weekly decline, dropping to a nine-month low, as stockpiles of the metal rose, expanding supply. Lead and zinc also dropped.

Gold and silver rose in New York on speculation a slowing U.S. economy may keep the Federal Reserve from raising interest rates, weakening the dollar and boosting the appeal of precious metals as alternative investments.

WALL STREET

Wall Street had its second-straight late-day rally Thursday, again propelling the Dow Jones industrials up more than 100 points after solid readings on corporate earnings and the job market calmed some of investors' anxiety about a tight credit market. The Labor Department said jobless claims rose last week by a slightly smaller number than economists predicted.

However, in the latest indication that the lending climate is still deteriorating, Accredited Home Lenders Holding Co., a nonbank mortgage lender, said in a filing Thursday its business is in jeopardy, and its stock plummeted 41 percent.

In other economic data, U.S. factories saw demand for their goods rise in June by 0.6 percent, up from a 0.5 percent drop in May but lower than expected.

Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by about 5 to 3 on the New York Stock Exchange, where consolidated volume came to 4.18 billion shares, compared to 4.93 billion on Wednesday.

WALL STREET

Wall Street shot higher in a last-minute advance Wednesday after careening through a session made turbulent by ongoing concerns about U.S. home loans and the credit market.

Stocks zigzagged for much of the day, with the Dow Jones industrials moving from positive to negative territory and back again before rallying to a gain of 150 points on bargain hunting during the last 20 minutes of trading.

Among the forces weighing on stocks, particularly those of the already hard-hit financial sector, was a report from The Wall Street Journal quoting anonymous sources that said Bear Stearns Cos. faces big losses from a third hedge fund.

A report from the National Association of Realtors found that pending sales of existing homes rose 5 percent in June from a month earlier. It was the largest monthly gain in more than three years.

Despite gains by the major market indexes, declining issues outnumbered advancers by more than 9 to 7 on the New York Stock Exchange, where volume came to a heavy 2.42 billion shares compared with 1.53 billion traded Tuesday.

Crude oil fell from a record $78.77 a barrel in New York after an Energy Department report showed that U.S. fuel stockpiles increased.

Copper futures fell in New York on concern that losses in equity markets may spread, slowing the U.S. economy.

Gold futures closed lower Wednesday, giving back almost half of their two-session gain of $7 an ounce, pressured by a steep drop in oil prices and some strength in the U.S. dollar as the U.S. stock market shook off earlier weakness.

WALL STREET

Wall Street fell sharply as renewed concerns about soured home loans blew away what had looked like a solid recovery rally. The Dow Jones industrials lost nearly 150 points, while investors seeking safety moved into bonds. Early in the session, stocks soared following strong earnings from General Motors Corp. and Sun Microsystems Inc. and amid somewhat mixed economic data.

The Commerce Department's year-over-year core personal consumption expenditures -- a closely watched inflation measure -- rose 1.9 percent in June, within the Federal Reserve's comfort zone.

But the market pulled back after American Home Mortgage Investment Corp. said Tuesday it hasn't been able to tap into its credit lines and has hired advisers to consider its options, including the sale of its assets.

Declining issues outnumbered advancers by about 9 to 7 on the New York Stock Exchange, where consolidated volume came to 4.18 billion shares compared with 4.04 billion traded Monday.

Bond prices rose as investors quickly fled stocks.

Crude oil rose to a record close of $78.21 a barrel in New York on speculation demand will outpace supply as refiners increase fuel production.

Copper futures in New York rose the most in more than a week after Southern Copper Corp. workers went on strike at three mines in Mexico.

Gold rose in New York, capping the first monthly gain since April, on speculation the dollar's decline against the euro will boost the appeal of the precious metal as an alternative investment. Silver also gained.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE QUARTER

OPERATIONAL - BEACONSFIELD GOLD MINE

Re-commissioning of underground operations progressing as planned.
Mr Alasdair Martin appointed General Manager of the Beaconsfield Gold Mine.
The Case for Safety for Eastern Ore Production accepted by the Chief Inspector of Mines, lifting restrictions on production from the Eastern Zone of the mine.
The only remaining Case for Safety, for production from the Western Zone, submitted to the Chief Inspector of Mines at the end of July.
Plans advanced for stope production in the Western Zone utilising remote mining methods. Subject to acceptance of the Case for Safety for the Western Zone Ore Production, extraction of high grade ore from the Zone is planned for late September 2007.
Ore treatment plant fully re-commissioned using feed sourced from ore development. Some 2,860 ounces of gold poured late in the quarter.
Underground diamond drilling commenced late July to test the North Reef, a quartz reef 75 metres to the north and parallel to the main Tasmania Reef.

CORPORATE

Trading of Beaconsfield Gold shares on the ASX resumed.
Mine ownership successfully consolidated with Beaconsfield Gold moving to approximately 90.1% of Allstate Explorations NL and an overall 94.9% equity interest in the mine.
Funding of $7.3 million raised by Beaconsfield Gold via a placement and a share purchase plan.
Proceedings commenced by Beaconsfield Gold Group companies in the Supreme Court of Victoria claiming damages of $45.5 million in respect of a business interruption insurance claim.

The Presidential Decree for the Sabodala Gold Project signed by Senegalese President H E Abdoulaye Wade and the subsequent Ministerial Notification Letter formally authorising the commencement of the investment and mining phases of the project development were received. The project has since commenced full mine construction phase.
Further significant drilling results continue to be received on the East Flat Zone within the Sabodala concession area (all holes inclined at 60 degrees) including:
SBRC060D 7.0 metres grading 6.2g/t gold from 106 metres; and
SBRC061 12.4 metres grading 7.4g/t gold from 115 metres
Two recently completed vertical diamond holes identified potential for significant depth extensions
of the ore zone returning significant intersections:
SBRC692D 59 metres grading 3.13g/t gold from 168 metres; and
SBRC673D 16.0 metres grading 8.3g/t gold from 149 metres

Grande Cote Zircon Project

Substantial drilling programmes continued at Fass Boye and Diogo. To 30 June 2007, a total 64,002 metres of RC drilling and 22,682 metres of auger holes had been completed at the Grande Cote.

Corporate

MDL successfully completed a A$94 million share placement involving the issue of 75 million shares at an issue price of A$1.25 per share. The placement was managed by Euroz Securities Limited.
Cash at end of quarter, A$48.16 million. No debt. Subsequent to 30 June 2007, the first tranche of the share placement of 44,898,630 shares, raising approximately A$53.65 million, was settled on 10 July 2007, bringing cash on hand to A$101.81 million.

Macmin Silver Ltd (Macmin) is a silver focused company whose primary projects are the Texas Silver Project, S.E. Queensland, Australia where the Twin Hills Silver Mine is nearing production and the Tally Ho Project near Mackay, Central Queensland. Macmin has exposure to gold by way of an 15% equity in New Guinea Gold Corporation (NGG) and a 1% NSR royalty on production by NGG. In addition, Macmin maintains equity investments in junior Australian explorers, Malachite Resources NL and Frontier Resources Ltd.

Commissioning of the Electro-winning plant (EM-EW) has been ongoing during the Quarter. Stripping of part of the leachate solution through the EM-EW plant resulted in the production of 40kg of silver powder. Silver powder production is expected to gradually build up over the next quarter.

Drilling at the Tally Ho Silver Project continues to highlight the resource potential of the silver and polymetallic mineralisation.

New Guinea Gold commenced gold processing at the Sinivit Mine in May with the first gold pour carried out in July.

Sale of assets to Santos QNT Pty Ltd

Following Icon's press release on 29th May 2007, Icon confirms that the sale of our interests in ATP 765 and 766 P in the Cooper Eromanga Basin has been signed and completed at a value for Icon's interest of $ 4,500,000 inclusive of GST. These funds will allow Icon to pursue exploration in its new Queensland permits, which were acquired recently and fund the drilling of Stitch No.1.

Stitch No.1 in ATP 626P

On 2nd July 2007 Icon assumed a 100% interest in ATP 626P following notificiation from Santos on 18th May 2007, where Santos indicated intention their to withdraw from the drilling of Stitch No.1 and relinquish its entire interest under the farmin agreement signed on 22nd March 2006.

Icon is currently negotiating a drilling contract for the drilling of Stitch No.1 to a depth of 2000 metres to intersect the Precipice Sandstone reservoir. We believe that this is the same reservoir that was developed at the Moonie oilfield 40 kms to the north of this location. Moonie produced approximately 25 million barrels of oil and was discovered in 1961 by the Union Oil company of California. The commencement date for the drilling of Stitch No.1is expected to be in September 2007 subject to the finalisation of the drilling contract and right of entry to the land where Stitch is located.

Coal Bed Methane prospects. (Lydia No.1 and Natasha No.1)

A separate rig contract is being finalised with Mitchell Drilling, to drill one coal bed methane (CBM) well in ATP 626P. Contract terms are being finalised now. An option to drill a second CBM well will be included in the contract and it will be a part of the current programme subject to the results obtained in the first well. These wells will be known as Lydia No.1 and Natasha No.1. The depth and structure of the coal seam is known as a result of wells drilled in 1962.Icon has complete copies of these original well logs for the 1962 wells. CBM was virtually unknown in 1962 and the coals while gassy in nature were never tested.

The expected drilling date for the CBM wells is September 2007 subject to finalisation of the contract terms and Right of Entry to the location of the wells. Other parties have indicated their desire to farmin for a smaller portion of the interest in these wells. At least two wells will be drilled and neither will be subject to the farmin negotiations.

Louisiana USA

Negotiations with a farminee partner are continuing. Further wells are planned but it is now expected that drilling will commence late this year or early 2008.

Initial assay results received for samples from diamond core drilling show significantly higher grades compared to those received from the RC drill samples which were used to calculate the initial Kihabe resource.

A further 243 metres of diamond core drilling completed the programme during the quarter for a cumulative total of 2035m.

Gossan float containing significant quantities of galena have been discovered some 10km south of the Kihabe resource.

WALL STREET

Wall Street found a foothold Monday as investors, still anxious that a credit crunch could crimp U.S. growth, took advantage of low prices after last week's steep losses. The Dow Jones industrial average surged more than 90 points.

Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by about 2 to 1 on the New York Stock Exchange.

Copper rose more than 1 percent in New York on speculation that a weaker dollar will encourage buyers holding other currencies to purchase the metal. Zinc also advanced.

LME-tracked nickel inventories rose for a third consecutive session, up 3 percent to 14,100 tons. That's the highest since June 2006. Stockpiles have more than tripled in the past year.

Lead stockpiles earmarked for withdrawal from LME- registered warehouses jumped 94 percent to 4,325 tons, according to LME data. The metal to be shipped out rose nearly fivefold in the past three sessions, from 925 tons reported July 25.

Tin rose to the highest since at least 1989 after one company held as much as nearly half of the stockpiles monitored by the London Metal Exchange.

Gold rose in New York as the dollar's decline against the euro boosted the appeal of the precious metal as an alternative investment. Silver also gained.

Quarterly Activities Report

Drill and Blast development of the decline has advanced to 263 metres as at 27 July 2007. First ore is expected to be accessed by early November 2007 subject to funding;
Construction of the gold processing plant remains 80% complete at the end of the quarter. Work will recommence following the confirmation of finance facilities;
Major works on site remain on hold in order to conserve cash;
A revised Base Case Financial Model has been finalised;
A new strategy has been developed to completely recapitalise the Company and to address its funding requirements. Each of the Company's major shareholders has confirmed their support for the recapitalisation
strategy. In addition the ANZ has indicated its willingness to participate in the proposed restructuring on a partial debt for equity swap basis;
The Company proposes to raise new equity of US$35 million to ensure that the Company is adequately funded to complete the development of the Cibaliung Gold Project and pursue an extensive exploration strategy;
Subject to funding, first gold pour from the Cibaliung Gold Project is anticipated in the first quarter of 2008.

Project Generation - Indonesia

Very encouraging results from vein-float found at Trenggalek suggest the presence of multiple high-grade quartz vein sources within the tenement. Scout drill testing is proposed for early 2008;
ARX holds a 20% interest in joint venture with the Anglo American Group in the Aisasjur Project in Papua. Subject to the issuing of a new forestry access permit, Anglo plans to undertake further diamond drilling at Aisasjur, testing deeper seated porphyry copper-gold targets.

Expenditure

Total exploration and development expenditure in Indonesia during the quarter amounted to A$6.8 million.
