WALL STREET
Wall Street ended an extraordinary and record-setting week Friday by surging higher again, sending the Standard & Poor's 500 index past a trading high set in March 2000 and thrusting the Dow Jones industrial past 13,900 for the first time. Both the S&P and the Dow logged record closes for the second straight day and the Dow's new trading high put the blue chip index within about 70 points of 14,000.
For the week, the Dow rose 295.57 points, or about 2.2 percent. The S&P added 1.4 percent for the week, the NASDAQ 1.5%.
On Friday, investors seemed upbeat about earnings and takeover activity and appeared only slightly disappointed by the Commerce Department's report that retail sales dropped 0.9 percent last month, following a 1.5 percent jump in May. The June figure was weaker than anticipated and marked the steepest decline in nearly two years.
Crude oil rose to an 11-month high in New York and London after a pipeline shutdown and maintenance work reduced North Sea Brent oil production.
Prices of copper stood firm on Friday even after workers agreed to a pay deal at Chile's Collahuasi mine, with concerns remaining about tight supplies as other strikes continued, traders said.
Lead rose to a record in London for a third consecutive day on speculation an expanded inquiry into contamination at Australian ports will exacerbate a shortage of the metal. Western Australia will assess pollution at seven ports after lead was detected in tests at Derby and Geraldton, the state's Department of Environment said yesterday. Shipments of raw material containing the metal used in batteries had already been suspended from the port of Esperance.
Nickel fell - LME-tracked stockpiles nickel metal used in stainless steel rose for a sixth straight day to 10,314 tons, the highest since June 30, 2006. Inventories have gained 55 percent this year.
Gold and silver eased in New York on speculation that the euro's rally against the dollar will stall, reducing the appeal of precious metals as alternative investments.

Off-market takeover bid by Beaconsfield Gold NL for Allstate Explorations NL has closed - Notice under ASX Listing Rule 3.3
We refer to the takeover bid by Beaconsfield Gold NL ABN 22 057 793 834 (Beaconsfield) for ordinary shares in Allstate Explorations NL ABN 27 000 679 023 (Allstate) announced on 30 April 2007.
Beaconsfield confirms that the takeover offer closed at 5:00pm (Melbourne time) on 12 July 2007 and hereby gives notice under ASX Listing Rule 3.3 that:
- the voting power of Beaconsfield in Allstate is 90.02% comprising 57,912,735 fully paid ordinary shares in Allstate out of a total of 62,818,175 fully paid ordinary shares and 7,504,032 partly paid ordinary shares in Allstate out of a total of 10,859,452 partly paid ordinary shares; and
- the applicable thresholds for compulsory acquisition of the outstanding ordinary shares in Allstate have therefore been met. However, in accordance with statements made in its bidder's statement, Beaconsfield will not proceed to compulsory acquisition of the outstanding shares in Allstate as would be permitted in accordance with the Corporations Act.

WALL STREET
Wall Street bounced back Wednesday from its sharp decline a day earlier, boosted by takeover activity ahead of second-quarter earnings reports. Investors shaken by profit warnings earlier in the week appeared to be cautiously optimistic as they awaited quarterly earnings reports.
Advancing issues narrowly outnumbered decliners, on slightly lower volume, on the New York Stock Exchange.
The US dollar fell to a new record low against the euro and a 26-year low versus the British pound, but rose versus the yen.
Crude oil futures fell 25 cents to $72.56 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, after the Energy Department reported that U.S. gasoline inventories rose more than anticipated.
Copper gained in New York on concern strikes would disrupt supplies from Chile, the world's largest source of the metal.
Gold fell in New York on speculation the dollar will halt a slide against the euro, eroding the appeal of the precious metal as an alternative investment. Silver was unchanged.

WALL STREET
Stocks plunged Tuesday as investors, nervous about upcoming earnings reports, cringed at troubling forecasts from retailers Home Depot and Sears and at soaring oil prices. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 148 points.
Declining issues outnumbered advancers by nearly 3 to 1, on increased volume, on the New York Stock Exchange.
Crude oil rose, pulled higher by gasoline on speculation that U.S. output of the fuel will slow because of unexpected refinery shutdowns.
Copper fell in New York, halting an eight-session rally, after a report showed imports declined in China, the world's largest consumer of the metal.
Nickel is off some $600/tonne and below the $34,000 level.

WALL STREET
Wall Street edged higher in an erratic session Monday as investors were reassured by a drop in Treasury bond yields yet still remained cautious as second-quarter earnings season kicks off this week.
Advancing issues outpaced decliners by 4 to 3, on slightly higher volume, on the New York Stock Exchange.
Crude oil fell from a 10-month high in New York on signs demand will decline as U.S. refineries shut units. Brent oil, produced in the North Sea, rose to an 11-month high because of output slowdowns at fields in the region.
Copper rose to a two-month high in New York after union workers went on strike at a mine in Chile, the world's largest producer of the metal.
Gold and silver rose in New York on speculation a decline in the value of the dollar will boost demand for precious metals as alternative investments.

MACMIN SILVER
Commissioning and commercial production of silver has proceeded more slowly than anticipated at the Twin Hills Silver Mine. Fine-tuning of the leach silver recovery circuits is expected to take several more months with silver production gradually building up over this period.
Delays in commissioning were caused primarily by the following:
- A failure in the new jaw crusher, caused by a manufacturing flaw which resulted in this crusher being out of action for 8 weeks. A hire crusher was utilised for part of that time. This problem has been fixed and a claim has been made against the manufacturer.
- The need to recruit and train personnel in the tight supply situation for mining and processing personnel has so far prevented a second crushing shift being implemented. On site training is a priority.
- Problems were encountered with the conveyor - hopper units which slowed the crush, agglomerate and stacking of the heaps (known as the CAS operation). We are currently looking at ways to improve the stacking function.
Silver has been building up in the solution pond, which is sized for anticipated production levels, from the irrigation of the lower grade (approx. 59g/t silver) material used to make the initial heaps. This material was processed during optimisation of the screening circuit so that any reduction in recovery of silver due to oversize product would only impact on the lower grade ore. Ore >80g/t silver is now being placed on the heaps, which will result in progressively higher silver leaching rates as further heaps come on line.
The manufacturers, Electrometals, are engaged with Macmin staff in commissioning and fine-tuning the electrowinning plant to efficiently produce a fine silver powder from the leachate solution. Approximately 40kg of silver has been produced during trials on several banks of cells in the plant and work is continuing to determine the optimum plant operating parameters for silver powder production.
