QUEENSLAND GAS COMPANY

Increasing gas flows to accelerate reserves certification

With increasing gas flows, the Berwyndale South Project is set to enter a new phase of production testing designed to accelerate the reserves certification process, according to Queensland Gas Company Managing Director Richard Cottee.

“As Operator of the Project, QGC is pleased to report that the gas to water ratio, as well as overall gas production, had increased since technical improvements were made to the wells in early July,” he said.

By installing larger production tubing in the wells, Mr Cottee noted that QGC had achieved a 25% increase in water production (to around 10,000 barrels a day) and aggregate gas flow rates in recent days have been measured at above 300,000 cubic feet a day from the seven wells.

“On the basis of the results we’re seeing, it is clear that ATP 632P contains commercially-recoverable reserves.

“Our focus remains on early commercialisation of the gas resource, and we will now direct our efforts towards reducing our drilling costs and to speeding up the certification process through a new phase of production testing,” he said.......For details........... COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENT

GOLDSEARCH

HIGHLIGHTS

Musgrave Block project – Independence Gold joint venture
It is gratifying for your Company to finally have action on the ground in these regions after 8 years of negotiations with authorities. The Central Land Council has completed its clearance of another two major Northern Territory tenements, ELs 5701 and 5703 to which we expect to gain entry in coming months. Independence Gold NL now has access to areas of interest in both the Northern Territory and South Australia that will allow it to conduct concentrated exploration under its joint venture agreement with Goldsearch.

Northern Territory - ELs 5702, 9443 and 9407 (Lasseter Highway, Docker River region)
Wide-spaced sampling on 2 kilometre by 500 metre and 4 kilometre by 500 metre grids was completed during the quarter with results expected within two weeks.

South Australia EL 2910 (De Rose Hill)
Infill sampling has been completed and Independence Gold NL is applying its technical experience and technology to evaluate the prospectivity of the area with the objective of defining drill targets for work later in the year.

Hawks Nest project
Our joint venture partner, Phelps Dodge Australasia Inc (PDA), expects to commence drilling on EL 2899 (Hawks Nest) during the December quarter as soon as the final tangential electro magnetic (TEM) ground survey has been completed and analysed.

Rheola project
During the quarter Goldsearch withdrew from its joint venture agreement with Rheola Gold Mining Company Pty Ltd after undertaking a drilling program to explore the gold potential of the Matrix Reef. A nine hole 786 metre percussion (RAB) drill program was completed and was not successful in finding any significant gold accumulation.

Duck Creek project
A new application EPMA 14088 has been lodged to replace EPM 13273 over an increased area at Cloncurry South, covering approximately 20 square kilometres.

Windeyer
Subsequent to 30 June exploration licence EL 6094 was granted to Goldsearch over this historical gold producing area located near Hargraves, 5 kilometres west of Windeyer, NSW.

Corporate
The 1 for 4 non-renounceable rights issue of 36,491,869 new shares with attached options was completed during the quarter. The issue raised approximately $1.46 million before issue expenses of $140,000.

Senior geological/corporate consultant
During the quarter the directors appointed Mr Tony Lethlean, B App Sc (Geology) of WHI Securities Pty Ltd investment bankers, as our senior geological/corporate consultant. Tony Lethlean is a nonexecutive director of Alkane Exploration Ltd and other private mining and financial groups. His previous experience includes 10 years in underground mining and exploration operations, including work at the Kalgoorlie Golden Mile and geologist in charge of Hargraves Resources NL. He was also associate director of Eyres Reed/CIBC Wood Gundy (1996-98) and director of CIBC World Markets (1998-00).
Tony Lethlean is well known in mining circles and, through his financial contacts and his underground geological knowledge, brings a vast depth of experience and knowledge to Goldsearch. His principal role is to investigate joint venture and investment opportunities for Goldsearch.

MITHRIL RESOURCES

REPORT FOR THE QUARTER ENDING 30 June 2003

HIGHLIGHTS

1. CORPORATE

  • Taking into consideration joint venture receivables and outstanding creditors. Mithril Resources' cash reserves are $2,421,730.
  • Approximately $190,000 were expended on exploration by joint venture partner, BHP Billiton, during the Quarter with an additional $200,000 expenditure budgeted for the September Quarter.

2. EXPLORATION

Streaky Bay Joint Venture

  • BHP Billiton can earn 70% equity through expenditure of $900,000 with Mithril as initial operator.
  • During the previous Quarter, drilling at the Wishbone Prospect identified a zone anomalous in copper, palladium and platinum coincident with a deeper electromagnetic anomaly. Additional ground geophysics completed in the June Quarter has defined a flat lying conductive body at a depth of approximately 200 metres.
  • BHP Billiton has agreed to fund a reverse circulation percussion drilling program to test the conductive body.

Plumridge (Mithril 100%)

  • A major airborne electromagnetic survey, consisting of 1495 line kilometers, was completed over prospective portions of the mafic complex.
  • The survey has identified several high priority late-time conductors coincident with magnetic anomalies which are situated on the eastern margin of the mafic complex.

Andrew Young Joint Venture

  • Mithril Resources is entitled to earn an initial interest of 40% in the tenements by sole funding expenditure of $800,000.
  • Ground geophysics completed during the quarter has indicated that some of the airborne anomalies are due to a conductive cover sequence and not bedrock responses which were the Company's target.

Talia Hill (Mithril100%)

  • A soil geochemical survey commenced testing magnetic targets along the projected strike extent of the ultramafic horizon. The survey will continue into the next quarter.

QUEENSLAND GAS

BHP Billiton - QGC alliance signals exciting new development phase

BHP Billiton, Queensland Gas Company and CS Energy today signed a Memorandum of Agreement which formalises the Memorandum of Understanding between the parties announced on 27 June 2003.

Under the MOA, BHP Billiton and QGC have 90 days to negotiate a new gas supply agreement with CS Energy which could replace QGC’s existing agreement with CS Energy. The existing agreement provides for ATP632P to supply up to 90 petajoules of gas to CS Energy over 15 years.

In connection with the proposed new gas agreement with CS Energy, BHPB will also negotiate farmin agreements to earn up to a 50% interest in three key blocks in the Surat Basin. Those farmin agreements would see BHP Billiton stepping in as a joint venture partner with QGC in ATP632P, and with QGC and Pangaea Oil and Gas in ATP620P and ATP648P.

The parties will endeavour to formalise the farm-in agreements within 90 days.

As part of the farm-in, CS Energy would remain a major customer under the terms of the new gas supply agreement.

The parties will work together during the intervening 90 day period, utilising the combined expertise and resources of BHPB and QGC to optimise the commercialisation of the Berwyndale South field.

GRAVITY CAPITAL

GRAVITY COMPLETES FARM-IN AND JOINT VENTURE AGREEMENT WITH RIO TINTO OVER DIAMOND PROPERTIES IN NORTHERN AUSTRALIA

Gravity Capital Limited (“Gravity”) is pleased to announce that, through its related company Diamond Mines Australia Pty Ltd (“DMA”), it has concluded its previously foreshadowed agreement with Rio Tinto to farm-in to five of Rio Tinto’s most advanced diamond exploration areas in northern Australia. These total in excess of 30,000 square kilometres and their location is shown on the attached map.

The key element of the farm-in will be the application of the FalconTM airborne gravity gradiometer system which has already discovered a number of diamond pipes in various parts of the world.

The five project areas – McArthur, Hodgson, Camooweal, Arnhem and Victoria River – have returned abundant micro-diamonds and significant macro-diamonds in surface sampling. In most cases, the kimberlite source of the diamonds has evaded prior exploration. The FalconTM system will bring a new dimension to exploration in the region and locate new drill targets.

TASGOLD

HIGH-GRADE GOLD (TO 1M OF 42.7 G/T AU) IN DRILL HOLES AT ENTERPRISE PROSPECT, LISLE PROJECT - TASMANIA

Drill assay results have confirmed the existence of high-grade gold zones (ore shoots) to 4m of 12.8 g/t Au, within each of two closely associated, sub-parallel, stacked, moderately westerly dipping, north striking quartz veins over a strike length of ~400m that are located within an extensive gold mineralized structural zone associated with an aeromagnetic high in granites.

The main gold mineralized structural zone and associated individual quartz veins are still open along strike north and south and also down-dip. The system is interpreted to host at least six gold bearing quartz veins and the area’s resource potential is currently being re-evaluated on the basis of these results. Additional drilling is strongly warranted and will be initiated when a diamond drilling rig is mobilised to site, probably in early September.

The geochemical signature and structural controls on the gold mineralisation are very similar to those of world class granite hosted gold ore bodies in the Yukon/Alaska and TasGold are systematically exploring the Lisle / Lone Star Project area (EL 2/92 & EL 41/02) for these very large types of deposits.

The southern end of the >1,000m long and up to 200m wide B/C horizon soil geochemical anomaly at Enterprise/Gold Crest was tested with 8 RC drill holes for a total of 541m, with the program designed to intersect the ‘Main Vein’ at ~60m below surface to ‘first pass’ evaluate the prospect’s gold resource potential. Six of the eight holes reached target depth (the Main Vein) and all returned intercepts of >1.0 g/t Au, as noted in the table below. A total of four holes have now documented intercepts of >10.0 g/t gold at the Enterprise Prospect.

REED RESOURCES

JUNE QUARTERLY REPORT - HIGHLIGHTS

• Diamond drilling at the Sand George Prospect has confirmed continuity of
the narrow vein, high grade mineralization in the SG 1 Lode over a strike
length of approximately 225m and the SG 2 Lode, below the SG 1 Lode,
over a strike length of approximately 150m.
• The SG 1 and SG 2 Lodes have a total Indicated Mineral Resource of
138,000 tonnes at 14.4 g/t Au (2 g/t Au cut-off) for 63,900 ounces of
contained gold.
• Deep drilling has intersected two new lode positions (SG 4 and SG 5
Lodes) with high-grade intersections including 0.6m @ 104.9 g/t Au in SG
4 Lode and 1.0m @ 40.8 g/t Au in SG 5 Lode.
• A new high grade lode (1m @ 15 g/t Au) and indications of a second new
lode have been intersected below the No.6 Level of the old Sand Queen
workings in the same stratigraphic and structural positions as the SG 1
and SG 2 Lodes at Sand George.
• A zone of high-grade mineralization at Sand Queen South, between Nos.1
and 3 Levels, contains an Indicated Mineral Resource of 6,500 tonnes at
19.8 g/t (2 g/t Au cut-off) for 4,100 ounces of contained gold.
• An extensive flat-lying to gently west-dipping thrust zone with zones of
massive quartz at the Sand Prince West prospect has potential to host a
significant, shallow low-grade resource.
• A new geological understanding of the geological characteristics of the
Sand Queen and Sand George Lodes has enhanced the potential for the
discovery of additional lodes between these two locations, as well as to
the north of the Sand Queen mine and to the south of the Sand George
prospect.

MACMIN SILVER

TECHNICAL REPORT – QUARTER ENDED 30th JUNE 2003

1. SUMMARY & COMMENTS

Macmin Silver Ltd (Macmin) is a silver focused company whose primary project is the Texas Silver Project, S.E. Queensland, Australia. Macmin has exposure to gold by way of a 65% equity in New Guinea Gold Corporation (NGG) and a 1% NSR royalty on production by NGG. Macmin's equity will decrease as new financing is arranged for NGG. In addition, Macmin maintains equity investments in junior Australian explorers, Malachite Resources NL and TasGold Ltd.
Macmin's business strategy is to enhance shareholder value by way of:

  1. Continuing to expand silver resources/reserves at its Texas Silver Project.
  2. Develop a silver mine at this project when the silver price shows sustained strength above AUD$9 per oz of silver.
  3. Gold production from NGG's Papua New Guinea projects.
  4. Obtain maximum benefit from likely major increases in silver and gold prices. Macmin is presently completely unhedged and the Directors' preference is to remain unhedged.

The Texas Silver Project has in-ground resources of 44.5Moz of silver equivalent, with a very substantial district potential, based on drill hole, geochemical and geophysical results, yet to be evaluated.

1.1 Highlights from the Quarter

1.1.1 Texas Silver Project

Macmin maintained an aggressive exploration programme during the quarter at the Texas Silver Project. Drilling, ground geophysics and geochemical surveys continued to confirm and expand the prospectivity of the project area.

  1. Drilling at Mt Gunyan intersected the best interval of near surface gold-silver to date with 12m at 108g/t silver and 1.8g/t gold (234g/t silver equivalent) between 8 and 20m down-hole in MGP 59. Drilling will continue in the next quarter.
  2. A new gold prospect was located and named the "Mt Gunyan North Gold Zone" where a previously untested gold-in-soil anomaly encountered 0.36g/t gold over 44m (entire drill-hole) from surface.
  3. A ground geophysical survey (IP) located a major "chargeability" anomaly extending 3 kms in length north from the Silver Spur Mine and named the "Goanna Zone". This zone opens up additional target possibilities, such as high-grade polymetallic (massive) sulphides in addition to Twin Hills style silver/gold mineralisation and thus has significant positive implications for ongoing exploration and development.
  4. Soil geochemistry and limited percussion drilling at the Back Creek Magnetite Prospect have revealed elevated values of gold, silver, copper, lead and zinc. Deeper drill testing will be undertaken in the coming quarter.
  5. A technical review of the Silver Spur Mine was undertaken during the quarter. Drilling will test for extensions to the Silver Spur mineralisation in the coming quarter. In 1998 Rimfire Pacific reported a combined indicated and inferred resource at Silver Spur of 808,000 tonnes at 5.93% zinc equivalent (2.25oz/t silver, 3.56% zinc, 1.25% lead, 0.17% copper and 0.09g/t gold) at a 2% zinc equivalent cut-off.

1.1.2New Guinea Gold Corporation

  1. New Guinea Gold Corporation, a TSX Venture Exchange listed company in which Macmin holds a 65% interest, is well advanced with the planning of a CDN$1million financing. This funding, although not yet guaranteed, will be used to revise a feasibility study for the Sinivit Gold Project and commence feasibility studies for the Imwauna and Weioko Gold Projects. These projects are all in Papua New Guinea and subject to successful feasibility studies, will collectively produce 40,000ozs of gold/year for a minimum of four to five years. Excellent potential remains to be explored, which could extend/expand mine lives.
  2. Bob McNeil, presently Executive Chairman of Macmin Silver Ltd, has also been appointed Chairman and President of New Guinea Gold.

1.2 Comment

The preferred silver price prior to development of the Twin Hills Silver Mine was previously quoted as US $5 per ounce of silver. With the recent appreciation in the $AUD it is now considered more appropriate to quote the preferred price in Australian dollars rather than US dollars.

The initial feasibility study on the higher-grade parts of the Twin Hills orebody indicated the cash cost of production was approximately AUD$5.50 per ounce of silver. However, with the increase in reserves and resources, high grading (i.e: the original Phase 1 pit envisaged mining only the higher grade parts of the orebody) of the silver mineralisation at Texas is considered undesirable. Higher silver prices would "unlock" further reserves for development and substantially extend the life of mining in the district. Higher silver prices would also enable the initial project capital to be raised on more favourable terms to the company.

The company continues to believe that much higher silver prices are likely in the near future, and thus shareholder value of the silver resources at Texas will be enhanced if mine development is delayed until the expected upward movement in silver prices has commenced.

The company's share price has weakened over the past quarter as the $AUD silver price has substantially weakened. Exploration successes have partially modified this price weakness, but for the forseeable future the Macmin Silver share price is likely to be mainly influenced by rises or falls (or expected rises and falls by investors) in the silver price.

QGC secures $8 million facility

Queensland Gas Company Ltd today secured an $8 million facility with US-based investment fund Cornell Capital Partners Offshore LP.

The equity line facility provides a further source of funding for QGC’s ongoing development of coalbed methane activities in the Surat Basin.

QGC’s Managing Director Richard Cottee said this assured, and competitively-priced source of funding provides the company with the financial strength to achieve the commercialisation of its vast resource.

“Our plan is to develop four petajoules of new gas sales each year from 2007 by aggressively pursuing new customers. This additional funding gives us the financial wherewithal to compete for new contracts,” he said.

RIO TINTO

Second Quarter Activities Report

Production Report for the Quarter Ended 30 June 2003

* Iron ore production in the second quarter of 2003 was 19 per cent above the second
quarter of 2002 driven by strong demand from key markets. Shipments from
Hamersley were six per cent above the second quarter of 2002 and port congestion is
likely to remain an issue while demand remains strong. Shipments of West Angelas
ore continue to firm reflecting widespread market acceptance and a growing customer
base.

* Rio Tinto’s share of aluminium production, including its additional share of Boyne
Island that was purchased in July 2002, was two per cent above the second quarter of
2002. Production at Tiwai Point continued to be constrained by higher spot power prices
in New Zealand and production from Boyne Island was affected by anode quality
issues. Production of alumina was in line with the second quarter of 2002.

* Production from the Australian and Indonesian coal operations was four per cent
below the second quarter of 2002. Coal & Allied shut down for an extended period over
Easter to reduce coal inventory levels caused by poor export market conditions.

* Production of US coal was four per cent above the second quarter of 2002. Production
and train availability were affected by unusually heavy rainfall in the second quarter of
2003.

* Mined copper production was slightly above the second quarter of 2002. Increased
production from Escondida following the commissioning of the new Laguna Seca
concentrator offset the effect of the disposal of Rio Tinto’s 25 per cent interest in the
Alumbrera mine which was completed in March 2003.

* Mined gold production was three per cent above the second quarter of 2002. Higher
grades at Grasberg more than offset lower grades at Kennecott Utah Copper and the
sale of Peak and Alumbrera. Molybdenum and silver grades at Kennecott Utah Copper
were also significantly lower.

* Refined copper production was down 36 per cent and refined gold production was less
than half that of the second quarter of 2002. The failure at the Kennecott Utah Copper
acid plant reported in the first quarter led to anode shortages in the second quarter
which significantly affected refinery production.

* Production of industrial minerals reflected market demand. Titanium dioxide
production continues to be managed in line with market demand with both QIT and
RBM operating below capacity. Borates production was marginally higher than in the
previous quarter.

GATEWAY MINING

HIGHLIGHTS - JUNE QUARTERLY REPORT

GIDGEE GOLD PROJECT

The company completed two programs of rotary airblast drilling during the quarter. The first in April comprised of 3,273 metres for 74 holes and tested targets within the Airport gold trend, the regional shear that hosts the Hypotenuse gold-arsenic anomaly and the Victory Creek prospect.

Results continue to be encouraging and include:

  • 10 metres @ 10.48 g/t gold from 5 metres depth from the newly discovered S Bend prospect within the Airport Gold trend.
  • 22 metres @ 1.02 g/t gold from Rosie North.
  • At Hypotenuse, which has had very little previous exploration, wide spaced drilling encountered gold-arsenic anomalism. Hypotenuse is located within a 5-kilometre long shear zone that is up to 60 metres wide under 5-30 metres of cover.

A second rotary airblast-drilling program completed in late June comprised of 4,425 metres for 111 holes. Holes tested targets within the Airport gold trend and several targets at Barrelmaker and Crater. Results are expected shortly and will be reported as they come to hand.

A detailed interpretation of low level airborne magnetics covering Montague was completed outlining up to 22 drilling targets. Results highlight the northwest trending Airport gold trend, up to seven untested targets at Victory Creek, and the northwest trending shear zone over 5 kilometres that hosts the Hypotenuse prospect.

COWRA PROJECT

The company recently announced a Farm-In and Joint Venture Agreement with Straits Resources Limited at its Cowra Project. Under the agreement, Straits has the option to earn 70% interest in the project by spending $2m on exploration.

  • Exploration by Straits has commenced.
  • A total of 1,132 soil samples were collected during the quarter at Kiola, a large copper-gold bearing zone covering an area of 7 km x 4 km.
  • Drill testing of twelve targets is currently underway.
  • Regional work will commence shortly to test the remainder of the project that remains largely underexplored.

HIGHLIGHTS - JUNE QUARTERLY REPORT

For details........... COMPANY REPORT

GOLDSEARCH LTD

MUSGRAVE BLOCK ACTIVITY

The directors of Goldsearch Limited are pleased to inform shareholders of current activity in the Company’s joint venture areas in the Musgrave Block, Central Australia. The work is being carried out by our joint venture partner Independence Gold NL ( “Independence” ) in both the Northern Territory and South Australian tenements where it is earning a 51% interest in Goldsearch Limited’s equity in the areas. It is gratifying for your Company to finally have action on the ground in these regions after 8 years of waiting. The Central Land Council has completed its appraisal of another two major Northern Territory tenements to which we expect to gain entry in coming months. Independence now has access to areas of interest in both the Northern Territory and South Australia that will allow it to conduct concentrated exploration under the joint venture agreement with the Company.

Northern Territory ELs 5702, 9443 and 9407 - results expected in three weeks
(Lasseter Highway, Docker River region)

Following an initial reconnaissance field program and orientation geochemistry, first-pass -75 micron soil and magnetic lag sampling is currently underway over targeted areas in the above tenements. Wide-spaced sampling on 2 kilometre by 500 metre and 4 kilometre by 500 metre grids is scheduled for completion this week with results expected in three weeks.

South Australia EL2910 (De Rose Hill) – four areas of interest identified

This tenement is approximately 65 kilometres south of the Northern Territory/ South Australian border and straddles the Stuart Highway. A program of wide-spaced geochemical sampling has been completed over the western parts of the lease area.
Results have been returned for the first pass -75 micron soil and magnetic sampling program completed in April 2003 over western areas of the tenement.

Two samples were taken from each of 267 sites on grids ranging in size from 500 metre by 500 metre to 2 kilometre by 500 metre using Independence’s proprietary sampling techniques. Their combination of sampling techniques and analysis are considered to provide optimum geochemical coverage not only for nickel sulphide targets but also targets on mesothermal gold deposits and Broken Hill type lead and zinc models.

The sampling was targeted to cover a broad area identified as having elevated cobalt, nickel and copper geochemistry based on open file –200 micron soil sampling data generated in the early 1970’s. Airborne magnetics were also used to help target the geochemical and magnetic features with signatures potentially associated with mafic/ ultramafic intrusives.

The sampling highlighted four areas for follow-up based on subdued but coherent nickel, cobalt, copper, gold and platinum group metal anomalies highlighted in the widely spaced first-pass program. These targets all occur in areas of significant transported cover and it is reasonable to expect that any geochemical signature potentially associated with buried mineralisation may be subdued.

LAKES OIL

SHAREHOLDER UPDATE

LAKES TO GO OFFSHORE GIPPSLAND BASIN

Lakes Oil N.L. (“LKO”) has concluded a farm-in to VIC/P47 offshore Bass Strait, Victoria. Lakes can earn 77% of a defined portion of the permit (see map) by drilling a well and completing 200 kilometres of 2D seismic. The well is to be drilled by December 2004.

As a result of an airborne gravity and magnetic survey over a portion of VIC/P47 our technical consultant has mapped a seismically defined structure, to be named “Gilbert” which could contain up to 54 mmbbls of oil in place should oil be present and up to 26 bcf of gas in place should gas be present.

“Gilbert” is located immediately to the north of the Patricia Baleen Fields which have recently been brought on stream. The gas pipeline crosses the “Gilbert” structure on its way to a new processing plant located in the Orbost area.

The airborne survey included coverage of the nearby “Patricia Baleen” Field as a means of calibration (with permission of the permit holder OMV). The technical data clearly defines the Patricia Baleen Field, and although we believe it has significant implications for our “Gilbert” structure it does not confirm or deny the presence of hydrocarbons in that structure. We are excited by our first venture offshore Victoria. This move is in keeping with our aim to have the majority of our exposure in Victoria, which we see as the centre for Eastern Australia’s energy markets.

Lakes has engaged Mr. Hugh Rutter to analyse the results of its airborne magnetic and gravity survey, with early analysis resulting in some very interesting findings. Lakes will now take a renewed interest in the eastern section of PEP 155 onshore Gippsland. Conclusions from the survey have indicated the possibility of hydrocarbon migration onshore Gippsland, east of Lakes Entrance.

Lakes will now carry out an onshore based gravity survey in the Marlo area and will apply to the Department of Primary Industries to drill several stratigraphic core holes. This will give us some idea of structure and potential for reservoir.

GYMPIE GOLD

JUNE QUARTERLY REPORT - HIGHLIGHTS

Principal Points

PRODUCTION
Southland Coal produced 548,000 tonnes of run-of-mine coal for the June quarter, bringing
average production to 192,000 tonnes per month since repositioning the longwall to the seam
floor in mid-February. This exceeds current budget of 150,000 tonnes per month. Product yield
has averaged 94%, providing 180,000 tonnes per month of washed saleable coal.

Gympie Eldorado Gold produced 14,486 ounces for the June quarter.

EXPLORATION
Development on the Inglewood Lode in the northernmost of current mine workings is 2.5 metres
wide and grading 8.5 g/t, almost twice the normal grade for Inglewood development ore. This ore
zone will be developed in the next financial year.

Drilling Inglewood North intercepted economic grades 1.2 kilometres north of the mine, including
2.5 metres at 10.7 g/t and 2.4 metres at 11.0 g/t.

Drilling Inglewood South, 300 metres south of the mine, has located near-surface the favourable
productive beds.

MARKETING
Coal sales totalled 479,000 tonnes for the June quarter and 1,261,000 tonnes for 2002-03
financial year. Shipments during the June quarter were constrained by port delays, which delayed
100,000 tonnes of scheduled sales into the 2003-04 financial year.

FINANCE
Cash on hand is $8.4 million and coal stocks and debtors have grown to $29.5 million.

Completed capital raisings of $15 million, repaid borrowings of $8 million and rescheduled bank
facilities.

Gold hedging reduced by 54,100 ounces to 126,000 ounces to provide greater short term upside
to a stronger gold price.

Currency hedging increased to $US57 million of coal revenues hedged at an average $A/$US
rate of $A1.00/$US 0.616.

CORPORATE
25%-owned regional gold explorer D'Aguilar Gold Limited issued a prospectus on 23 June 2003
for a $4 million initial public offering. The $1 million priority allocation to Gympie Gold shareholders
closed oversubscribed on 18 July 2003.

The group's personnel requirements and costs were reviewed during the quarter. Mr Peter Hayes
appointed Chief Operating Officer and Mr Arthur Gillen appointed Chief Financial Officer,
replacing Mr John Leach - retiring Finance Director. Personnel numbers reduced by 60 at Gympie
Eldorado, principally reflecting mine mechanisation and reduced development.

QUEENSLAND GAS

QGC and CS Energy form joint venture

Emerging coalbed methane producer, Queensland Gas Company and electricity generator CS Energy have today completed their farm-in agreement on ATP632P in Queensland’s Surat basin. The two parties now each hold a 50% interest in the promising Berwyndale South gas field which QGC has been appraising.

Under the terms of the farm-in agreement, QGC will receive $500,000 today, while CS Energy will fund QGC’s share of future expenditure in the project, up to $4.5 million, effective from 1 July 2003.

Operations at the Berwyndale South pilot facility continue to focus on the certification of reserves for the supply of gas to CS Energy under the Gas Agreement announced in December 2002. Supply of gas under the agreement is expected to commence in 2005, although there are plans to deliver gas in 2004 as gas flow rates increase.

SYDNEY GAS

CAMDEN GAS PROJECT PROGRESS REPORT

Sydney Gas is pleased to provide the following progress report upon its Camden Gas
Project (“Project”).

STAGE I WELLS (PPL1 AND PPL2)

During June 2003, production from Stage I production wells was strong, and the Ray Beddoe Treatment Plant ran at 99.4% efficiency. Daily gas sales to AGL Wholesale Gas Ltd from the Plant are now consistently within the range of 2,400-2,600 GJ per day, generating on an annualised basis around $3 million in sales revenue. Record gas sales were achieved for the month of June.

Most of this sales gas is being produced from the seven best wells within Stage I – all seven wells being within the high production fairway that Sydney Gas has delineated in collaboration with the CSIRO and the School of Petroleum Engineering, The University of New South Wales (“SCOPE”).

These seven high production wells in Stage I are in the same high production fairway as the next 100 production wells that are being currently drilled and completed.

STAGE II WELLS: DRILLING AND COMPLETION

Substantial progress has been achieved in the drilling and completion of the initial 40 wells within the 100 well programme (despite frequent wet weather over the past six weeks that has made mobilisation of heavy equipment for drilling and fraccing difficult at numerous well sites).

To date, 28 new wells have been drilled within Stage II, including three wells in the Rosalind Park (“RP”) area being currently drilled to total depth. These wells are spread over an area of 55 km2. Each well site has been deliberately chosen with a view to extend the aerial extent of the Sydney Gas’ high production fairway at Camden.

MINERAL DEPOSITS LTD

UPDATE ON MDL’S MINERAL SANDS OPERATIONS
IN INDIA AND AUSTRALIA

Mineral Deposits Limited (“MDL”) has today finalised a comprehensive technical and commercial co-operation agreement with a private Indian company, Beach Minerals (Sands) Company Limited (“BMC”).

BMC is an established garnet and ilmenite producer from its mine at Kuttam in southeast India. It is one of the largest garnet producers in the world. The resources owned by BMC around Kuttam, which are presently ‘dry mined’, are extensive and high grade. MDL has been working closely with BMC for some time on drilling and sampling followed by extensive mineral separation testwork to establish the viability of the proposed expanded operations. The recent drilling programme of the extensive surface dune system has demonstrated an in-situ heavy mineral grade of around 20%. These dunes have a very low slime content (0.5% to 2%) and are free running sands reminiscent of the dune system currently mined by MDL at Fullerton in NSW.

The agreement will see the transfer of MDL’s nine million tonne per annum Fullerton dredge to BMC over the coming months where it will be reconfigured and commissioned by year-end. MDL is providing technical expertise in respect of a dredge mining programme at Kuttam. The resources available on BMC’s mining lease at Kuttam are expected to sustain the dredging operation for several decades. BMC will fund the costs associated with shipping the dredge from Australia and its reconfiguration and assembly in India. For details ...... COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENT

DAIRI PRE-FEASIBILITY STUDY

Herald is pleased to announce the results of the Dairi Zinc/Lead Project Pre-Feasibility Study.

The base case in the Study provides a positive cash flow outcome based on 1mt per annum operation for 6.4 years on mineable ore reserves at the Anjing Hitam deposit.
Additional resources at the project outside of the Anjing Hitam deposit total 9mt, but have not been considered in the Study.

Net operating pre-tax cashflows are US$228M before capital costs, which have been estimated at US$83M. Assumed metal prices have been conservative, being much lower than long-term estimates from a number of forecasters, and estimates for the cost of the processing facilities include a 20% contingency.

The Dairi project shows a robust pre-tax IRR (internal rate of return) of 31%. With 70% gearing, pre-tax return on equity is 52%.

Total cash operating costs have been estimated at US$0.30 per pound zinc equivalent...... COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENT

PLUMRIDGE PROJECT - ENCOURAGING EXPLORATION RESULTS

The project area consists of seven exploration licences and is located some 400 kilometres due east of Kalgoorlie. The area was taken up to test a series of mafic-ultramafic intrusives and dykes forming the Salt Creek Complex for magmatic nickel sulphide and associated copper, platinum and palladium mineralisation.

The only significant exploration in the area was completed on the tenements during the last two years and includes:

The detailed airborne magnetics indicated the presence of hundreds of small, intense, negative magnetic anomalies (up to 2500nt), many of which cluster and appear to be an unusual expression of larger intrusions. More significantly, the airborne electromagnetic survey, flown earlier this year, has identified a number of high priority discrete bedrock conductors, consistent with massive sulphides and closely associated with the mafic intrusive belt. These conductors are interpreted to be under thin cover (<50 metres) and have a strike length up to 1.5 kilometres.

BHP Billiton has elected not to participate in a Joint Venture in respect of the Plumridge area. The Company views the exploration results obtained to date as very encouraging and discussions are in progress with potential joint venture parties..... COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENT

COOLGARDIE GOLD PROJECT UPDATE

Ore treated at Coolgardie during the June quarter was below the level budgeted (250,497 vs 285,000 tonnes). Throughput for the quarter was hampered by a mill motor bearing failure, an electric cable breakdown (renewed at the time of refurbishment), major rebuild of the secondary crusher and a planned partial mill reline. The June month exceeded budget throughput (101,849 tonnes vs 95,000 tonnes) when the rebuilt crusher came on line.

Gold production was below expectations due to a delay in completing the vent rise in time to allow stoping of high grade Empress ore during the quarter as forecast. The vent rise is now complete and is being equipped, with stoping to commence within a week. Approximately 500 oz gold appears to have been lost from the elution circuit due to a valve malfunction.
This circuit has been modified to eliminate further potential losses...... COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENT

Following receipt of highly encouraging copper-gold drill results from the Company's Little Eva and Lady Clayre deposits (reported to ASX 9 November 2002, 29 November 2002, 5 June 2003 and 11 June 2003) the directors of Universal Resources Limited have decided to shift the exploration emphasis at the Roseby Exploration Joint Venture (EJV) (Figure 1) towards developing sufficient resources in the short term to support a mining and processing operation which, if successful, could result in the Joint Venture producing around 15,000 to 25,000 tpa copper and 25,000 to 35,000 oz pa gold with gross revenue, on current prices and exchange rates of around A$60-70M per annum.
